  1. 1. Bright Needles in a Haystack : A Search for Magnetic Monopoles Using the IceCube Neutrino Observatory

    Författare :Alexander Burgman; Carlos Pérez de los Heros; Olga Botner; Allan Hallgren; David Milstead; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetic monopole; IceCube; astroparticle physics; neutrino telescope; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the geographic South Pole is designed to detect the light produced by the daughter-particles of in-ice neutrino-nucleon interactions, using one cubic kilometer of ice instrumented with more than 5000 optical sensors.Magnetic monopoles are hypothetical particles with non-zero magnetic charge, predicted to exist in many extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics. 2. 2. Searches for Dark Matter with IceCube and DeepCore : New constraints on theories predicting dark matter particles

    Författare :Matthias Danninger; Klas Hultqvist; Patrick Decowski; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dark matter; neutrinos; neutrino telescopes; IceCube; DeepCore; dark matter experiments; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The cubic-kilometer sized IceCube neutrino observatory, constructed in the glacial ice at the South Pole, searches indirectly for dark matter via neutrinos from dark matter self-annihilations. It has a high discovery potential through striking signatures. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Extremes of Neutrino Astronomy : From Fermi Bubbles with IceCube to Ice Studies with ARIANNA

    Författare :Elisabeth Unger; Allan Hallgren; Olga Botner; Antonio Capone; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astroparticle physics; neutrino telescopes; IceCube; Fermi bubbles; ARIANNA; horizontal propagation; surface wave propagation; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics; High Energy Physics; Högenergifysik;

    Sammanfattning : The Fermi bubbles are extended regions of hard gamma-ray emission which were discovered with Fermi-LAT data to exist above and below the Galactic Center. In order to explain the origin of the gamma-rays, different theories are proposed. LÄS MER

  4. 4. A search for solar dark matter with the IceCube neutrino telescope

    Författare :Gustav Wikström; Klas Hultqvist; John Carr; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dark matter; neutrinos; neutrino telescopes; IceCube; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Dark matter particles in the form of supersymmetric Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) could accumulate in the centre of the Sun because of gravitational trapping. Pair-wise annihilations of WIMPs could create standard model particles out of which neutrinos could reach the Earth. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Indirect Searches for Galactic Dark Matter with IceCube-DeepCore and PINGU

    Författare :Martin Wolf; Chad Finley; David Milstead; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dark Matter; Galactic Center; IceCube; DeepCore; PINGU;

    Sammanfattning : The cubic-kilometer sized IceCube neutrino observatory is burieddeep in the glacial ice at the Earth’s South Pole. Its low-energyextension array DeepCore enables physicists to search indirectlyfor light Dark Matter (DM) particles with masses as low as tensof GeV/c2 situated within our home galaxy, the Milky Way.
