21. Experimental validation and numerical upscaling of linear network models for simulation of paper
Sammanfattning : Paper modeling results in complex geometries that lead to enormous numerical problems. The complexity lies in the material's microstructure. Individual paper fibers must be considered for useful material simulations in paper development, where wood composition and other fiber-based parameters are essential. LÄS MER
22. On computational modeling of sintering based on homogenization
Sammanfattning : Liquid-phase sintering is the process where a precompacted powder, “green body”, is heatedto the point where (a part of) the solid material melts, and the specimen shrinks while keeping(almost) net shape. In the case of hardmetal, the microstructure is defined by WC-Co-particleswith large pores, whereby molten Co represents the liquid phase. LÄS MER
23. Extreme points of the Vandermonde determinant in numerical approximation, random matrix theory and financial mathematics
Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses the extreme points of the Vandermonde determinant on various surfaces, their applications in numerical approximation, random matrix theory and financial mathematics. Some mathematical models that employ these extreme points such as curve fitting, data smoothing, experimental design, electrostatics, risk control in finance and method for finding the extreme points on certain surfaces are demonstrated. 24. Nelson-type Limits for α-Stable Lévy Processes
Sammanfattning : Brownian motion has met growing interest in mathematics, physics and particularly in finance since it was introduced in the beginning of the twentieth century. Stochastic processes generalizing Brownian motion have influenced many research fields theoretically and practically. LÄS MER
25. Numerical modelling of particulate matter deposition in exhaust gas after-treatment systems
Sammanfattning : As urban air quality declines, the corresponding levels of particulate matter (PM), that include pollutants such as sulfates, nitrates and black carbon, rise posing the greatest risks to human health. Hence, the control of these particulate emissions constitutes a major global challenge that commands serious attention. LÄS MER
