1. Pressure-Induced Amorphization and Distinct Amorphous States of Clathrate Hydrates
Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes a study on the pressure-induced amorphization (PIA) and structures of amorphous states of clathrate hydrates (CHs).PIA involves the transition of a crystalline material into an amorphous solid in response of mechanical compression at temperatures well below the melting point. 2. Metal Hydrogen Interaction and Structural Characterization of Amorphous Materials from first principles
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, first-principles calculations based on density functional theory have been employed to investigate metal hydrogen interaction in transition, p-block and rare earth metals. Furthermore, the accuracy of the stochastic quenching method was tested in describing the structure of amorphous Fe(1-x)Zrx. LÄS MER
3. X-ray Spectroscopic Studies of Materials for Nuclear Technology
Sammanfattning : X-ray spectroscopic experiments, including X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS), were performed in a large energy range (60-9000 eV) on a variety of systems, probing different elements and orbitals. The systems can preferably be divided into three groups: Actinides, copper systems and amorphous materials. LÄS MER
4. Dynamic and quasi-stationary electrochromic response of amorphous tungsten oxide thin films : In situ combined electrochemical and optical measurements during lithium intercalation
Sammanfattning : Electrochromic (EC) materials can adjust their optical properties, reversibly, by means of an external electrical stimulus. They have relevant technological applications; for example, energy-efficient smart windows, which can adapt dynamically—according to the given environmental conditions—to control the heat and visible light fluxes between the interior and exterior of a building. 5. Atomic short-range order, optical and electronic properties of amorphous transition metal oxides : An experimental and theoretical study of amorphous titanium aTiO2 and tungsten aWO3 solid thin-film oxides
Sammanfattning : Amorphous transition metal oxides [aTMOs], have emerged as innovative functional materials for wide-ranging electronic, optical and energy-related applications. However, no systematic and broadly applicable method exists to assess their atomic-scale correlations, and since the optical and electronic processes are local structure-dependent, still there are not well-stablished mechanisms that suitably explain the physical properties of aTMOs.
