  1. 21. Computational Modeling of the Vocal Tract : Applications to Speech Production

    Författare :Saeed Dabbaghchian; Olov Engwall; Sidney Fels; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; vocal tract; upper airway; speech production; biomechanical model; acoustic model; vocal tract reconstruction; Tal- och musikkommunikation; Speech and Music Communication;

    Sammanfattning : Human speech production is a complex process, involving neuromuscular control signals, the effects of articulators' biomechanical properties and acoustic wave propagation in a vocal tract tube of intricate shape. Modeling these phenomena may play an important role in advancing our understanding of the involved mechanisms, and may also have future medical applications, e. LÄS MER

  2. 22. A Combined Perceptual and Acoustical Account of US Dialect Distance

    Författare :Clelia R. LaMonica; Peter Sundkvist; Cynthia Clopper; Anja Schüppert; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; US English; dialects; dialectometry; perception; acoustics; sociophonetics; English; engelska;

    Sammanfattning : This study examines the influence of attitudinal, perceptual, and acoustic factors on the categorization of US dialects by comparing acoustic-vocalic and perceived accent distances. The results of native and non-native listeners’ perceived distances between US regional accents are investigated in light of how acoustic-phonetic markers, attitudinal judgments, and identifiability may together impact how similar or different accents are perceived to be. 3. 23. Electroglottographic analysis of phonatory dynamics and states

    Författare :Andreas Selamtzis; Sten Ternström; Malte Kob; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; voice function; phonation; vocal fold vibration; vocal registers; electroglottography;

    Sammanfattning : The human voice is a product of an intricate biophysical system. The complexity of this system enables a rich variety of possible sounds, but at the same time poses great challenges for quantitative voice analysis. For example, the vocal folds can vibrate in several different ways, leading to variations in the acoustic output. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Computational Models of Some Communicative Head Movements

    Författare :Sonia Sangari; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Speech communication involves normally not only speech but also face and head movements. In the present investigation the visual correlates to focal accent in read speech and to confirmation in Swedish are studied and a computational model for the movements is hypothesized. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Sound Generation and Propagation in the Human Upper Airways

    Författare :Lukas Schickhofer; Mihai Mihaescu; Anders Dahlkild; Mats Karlsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : The human upper airways embrace the source of phonation and affect the modulation of the voice, which is of vital importance for communication. Moreover, unwanted sounds may be generated in the upper airways due to elastic, collapsible parts that are susceptible to flow-induced vibration and resonance. LÄS MER
