  1. 16. Flow boiling heat transfer, pressure drop and dryout characteristics of low GWP refrigerants in a vertical mini-channel

    Författare :Zahid Anwar; Björn Palm; Rahmatollah Khodabandeh; Maria Fernandino; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mini micro-channels; R1234yf; R152a; R600a; R134a; Boiling heat transfer; Pressure drop; Dryout; Correlation;

    Sammanfattning : Two-phase heat transfer in mini/micro-channels is capable of meeting the high cooling demands of modern high heat flux applications. The phase change process ensures better temperature uniformity and control for local hot spots. Furthermore, these compact channels could be helpful in reducing the required charge and material inventories. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Enhanced Boiling Heat Transfer on a Dendritic and Micro-Porous Copper Structure

    Författare :Richard Furberg; Björn Palm; Vishwas Wadekar; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; enhanced boiling; R134a; FC-72; flow boiling; heat transfer; high speed visualization; instability; micro-channels; micro-structured; nano- and micro-technology; nano- and micro-porous structured surfaces; plate heat exchanger; pool boiling; porous media; thermosyphon; two-phase heat transfer; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Sammanfattning : A novel surface structure comprising dendritically ordered nano-particles of copper was developed during the duration of this thesis research project. A high current density electrodeposition process, where hydrogen bubbles functioned as a dynamic mask for the materials deposition, was used as a basic fabrication method. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Phase Change Phenomena During Fluid Flow in Microchannels

    Författare :Rashid Ali; Björn E Palm; Gian Piero Celata; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microchannels; Boiling; Heat Transfer; Thermal energy engineering; Termisk energiteknik; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Sammanfattning : Phase change phenomena of a fluid flowing in a micro channel may be exploited to make the heat exchangers more compact and energy efficient. Compact heat exchangers offer several advantages such as light weight, low cost, energy efficiency, capability of removing high heat fluxes and charge reduction are a few to mention. LÄS MER

  4. 19. On determining lost core viability in high-pressure die casting using Computational Continuum Mechanics

    Författare :Sebastian Kohlstädt; Pär Jönsson; Julio Hernandez; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-pressure die casting; lost salt cores; computational continuum mechanics; two-phase compressible flow; OpenFOAM; CFD; fluid-structure interaction; volume-of-fluid method;

    Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis work is to investigate whether Computational ContinuumMechanics (CCM) can serve as a valuable tool for the casting engineerto determine a priori whether a housing concept with inlying geometries thatso far only exists in Computer Aided Design (CAD) will have the desired coolingperformance and will be manufacturable with an acceptable number ofrejects.As of spring 2019, no application in serial production of lost cores, i. 5. 20. Heat Balance Modeling of a Stationary Fluidized-Bed Furnace Burning Biomass

    Författare :Fredrik Niklasson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mixing; modeling; biomass; dispersion; heat balance; fluidized bed boiler;

    Sammanfattning : The influence of biomass fuel properties on the heat balance of the bottom region (bed and splash zone) of a commercial-scale bubbling fluidized-bed furnace is investigated theoretically and experimentally. The experiments have been carried out at the Chalmers 12 MWth research boiler, operated under non-circulating conditions during most of the experiments. LÄS MER
