  1. 6. The enteric nervous sytem and infectious diarrhoea. An experimental study in mouse and rat

    Författare :Shirin Kordasti; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :rotavirus; cholera; secretion; potential difference; enteric nervous system;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: To evaluate the role of the enteric nervous system in one of the most common types of infectious diarrhoea worldwide, rotavirus infection, and to further clarify the mechanisms behind neurally mediated intestinal secretion. Methods: The experiments were performed on neonatal and adult mice and adult rats. Experimental setups: In vitro: 1. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Intestinal barrier function in health and disease

    Författare :Pernilla Nejdfors; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; VIP.; PACAP; secretion; ion transport; urine reservoir; radiation therapy; ulcerative colitis; macromolecules; dextran; mannitol; Ussing chamber; Intestinal permeability; mucosa; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The intestinal epithelium has the dual function of absorbing nutrients and water as well as being a barrier to potentially harmful substances such as macromolecules and bacteria. In the present thesis the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa was studied in vitro in Ussing diffusion chambers. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Cytochrome P450 2E1 - relevance for central dopamine neurotransmission and Parkinson's disease

    Författare :Haydeh Niazi Shahabi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :cytochrome P450 2E1; dopamine; substantia nigra; polymorphism; alternative splicing;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: The enzyme cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) has been found in dopamine (DA) containing brain regions that are of relevance for Parkinson?s disease (PD), and is known to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), toxic molecules that have been implicated in the degeneration of DA neurones. In addition, previous investigations have indicated that inhibition of CYP2E1 increases extracellular DA in the substantia nigra, a nucleus which degenerates in PD. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Functional studies of purinergic and cholinergic interactions in the rat urinary bladder - Characterization of ATP-evoked urothelial release of acetylcholine

    Författare :Johanna Stenqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ATP; acetylcholine; urothelium; caveolae; afferents; cystitis;

    Sammanfattning : Functional interplays between different transmitter systems are known to affect the signalling of the micturition reflex arc. The functional implications of many of these interactions, such as between ATP and acetylcholine, have yet to be unravelled. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Gut peptides in gastrointestinal motility and mucosal permeability

    Författare :Md. Abdul Halim; Webb Dominic-Luc; Per M Hellström; Lars Fändriks; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Gut regulatory peptides; Neuropeptides; Gastrointestinal mucosal permeability; Gastrointestinal motility; GLP-1; NPS; ROSE-010;

    Sammanfattning : Gut regulatory peptides, such as neuropeptides and incretins, play important roles in hunger, satiety and gastrointestinal motility, and possibly mucosal permeability. Many peptides secreted by myenteric nerves that regulate motor control are also produced in mucosal epithelial cells. LÄS MER
