  1. 21. Fingerprints of light-induced molecular transients : from quantum chemical models of ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy

    Författare :Jesper Norell; Michael Odelius; Sang-Kil Son; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; time-resolved x-ray spectroscopy; quantum chemistry; electronic structure; multi-configurational self-consistent field; density functional theory; molecular dynamics; Born-Oppenheimer dynamics; non-adiabatic dynamics; proton-transfer; charge-transfer; solvatization; Dyson orbital; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Absorption of sunlight generates renewable electricity and powers the growth of plants, but also causes severe damage both to synthetic materials and biological tissue. The wildly varying outcomes of these light-induced processes are ultimately determined by much slighter differences in their underlying reaction pathways, induced by the transient properties of short-lived and miniscule molecules; a powerful approach to their detection and characterization is offered by ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy, with identification of spectral fingerprints and further guidance from quantum chemical models. 2. 22. Molecular mechanisms in amyloid fibril formation

    Författare :Waltteri Hosia; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns investigations on molecular processes and interactions that lead to amyloid fibril formation. Pulmonary surfactant protein C (SP-C), and a synthetic analogue thereof, SP-C(Leu), have similar properties in terms of charge distribution, hydrophobicity and secondary structure, yet they differ in their aggregation propensities. 3. 23. Solute exhange across the alveolo-capillary barrier

    Författare :Kristina Nilsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tomography; radiology; Clinical physics; pulmonary oedema.; nuclear medicine; smoking; permeability; rabbit; DTPA; Pulmonary surfactants; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study the transfer of solutes across the alveolo-capillary barrier in experimental models of alveolar surfactant dysfunction and lung injury as well as in smokers. Experimental studies were performed in anaesthetized, and mechanically ventilated animals. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Detection and 3-D positioning of small defects using digital radiography, 3-D point reconstruction, and tracking

    Författare :Erik Lindgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pore Defects; Radiographic Testing; Nondestructive Evaluation; Laser Welded Titanium; Multiple Hypothesis Tracking; X-ray Testing;

    Sammanfattning : The weight and quality concerned aero industry is constantly trying to decrease the excess material in their components. With decreased weight the fuel consumption can be lowered and the negative environmental effects from aviation decreased. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Probing Catalytic Reaction Mechanisms of Biomimetic Diiron Complexes through Time-resolved Absorption Spectroscopy

    Författare :Shihuai Wang; Leif Hammarström; Reiner Lomoth; Jillian Dempsey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Artificial photosynthesis; Biomimetic catalysts; H2 formation; Catalytic intermediates;

    Sammanfattning : Directed design of improved molecular catalysts for hydrogen evolution reactions relies on rational benchmarking based on a detailed understanding about the mechanism of catalysis. Specifically, investigation of multi-electron redox catalysis, with structural characterization of catalytic intermediates, combined with the kinetics of their transformations, can reveal the rate-limiting step of the overall reaction, possible degradation pathways and the function of structural motives.
