Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the influence of volcanism on the compositions of the aerosols in the upper troposphere (UT) and lowermost stratosphere (LMS), and their direct and indirect impact on climate. Aerosol data were obtained by aircraft-borne sampling, using the CARIBIC (Civil Aircraft for the Regular Investigation of the Atmosphere Based on an Instrument Container) platform, and laboratory-based ion beam analysis of aerosol samples at the Lund Ion Beam Analysis Facility (LIBAF). Sammanfattning : Since the early 1980's, large scale ozone depletion has been observed in the lower regions of the ozone layer over Antarctica when sunlight returns to the polar region in the early spring. The destruction of ozone is attributed to anthropogenic emissions of freon and halon compounds that have augmented the natural stratospheric concentrations of nonreactive Clx and Brx reservoir species with several hundred percent. 3. A Study of Polar Ozone Depletion in the Lower Stratosphere. -Dynamical assimilation of O3 and N2O data from Odin/SMR and ENVISAT/MIPAS
Sammanfattning : For more than 20 years, a hole in the ozone layer has formed each spring over Antarctica when sunlight returns to the polar region. Similar albeit far less extensive ozone destruction has also been observed in the Arctic polar vortex after colder than average winters. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Serious ozone depletion has been measured every Antarctic spring since the early 80’s. This ozone depletion is considered to be a result of photo chemical reactions and cat- alytic cycles resulting from anthropogenic halogen containing gases. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : The depletion of ozone from the stratosphere and the impact of global warming have been identified as phenomena caused as a result of anthropogenic activity. Scientists are thus trying to find quicker and more reliable ways to analyse these environmental problems. LÄS MER
