    Sammanfattning : We discuss recent developments in supersymmetric field theory due to the conjecture of Dijkgraaf and Vafa relating the effective superpotential of such theories to the computation of an associated matrix model.     Sammanfattning : This thesis takes a departure from a view of scientific literacy as situated in participation in civic practices. From such a view, it becomes problematic to assess scientific literacy through decontextualised test items only dealing with single aspects of participation in contexts concerned with science.     Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four studies that further develop the perspectives introduced in the author’s licential dissertation, Sweden and the European Miracles: Conquest, Growth and Voice (1996). The dynamic properties of the European system of independent but interacting societies are traced back to the institutional polystruc-turality of European feudalism and the peculiarities of Sweden’s historical experience are asserted to be part of this intersocietal heritage.     Sammanfattning : A prerequisite of the reasoning carried out in this dissertation is that scientific theories as such do not have any logical implications for religion. How can it be then that certain scientific theories, among them physical ones, nevertheless seem to be religiously relevant?One possible answer to this question is that the relevance between contemporary scientific theories and theistic/atheistic ideas is indirect, meaning that it is based upon metaphysical suppositions which presumably are in some way connected with scientific theories.
