  1. 21. Understanding the Conditions and Consequences of Women’s Political Representation

    Författare :Valeriya Mechkova; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Descriptive Representation; Substantive Representation; Women and Politics;

    Sammanfattning : In recent decades, women’s ability to engage in politics and civil society has risen dramatically across the globe. What has the increase in the number of women in politics, their “descriptive representation”, meant in substantive terms for women-citizens but also for societies in general? This dissertation contributes to clarifying the effects of descriptive representation of women on substantive representation, defined as the policy areas women tend to prioritize to a higher degree than men. 2. 22. Majorana Representation in Quantum Optics : SU(2) Interferometry and Uncertainty Relations

    Författare :Saroosh Shabbir; Gunnar Björk; Maria Chekhova; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Majorana representation; Quantum optics; interferometry; SU 2 group; angular momentum; arbitrary optical gates; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The algebra of SU(2) is ubiquitous in physics, applicable both to the atomic spin states and the polarisation states of light. The method developed by Majorana and Schwinger to represent pure, symmetric spin-states of arbitrary value as a product of spin-1/2 states is a powerful tool that allows for a great conceptual and practical simplification. 3. 23. The Mediated Representation of Working Conditions in the Global South : Discourse, Ideology and Responsibility

    Författare :Vladimir Cotal San Martin; Peter Berglez; Michal Krzyzanowski; David Machin; Anna Roosvall; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Working Conditions; Global South; Media Studies; Journalism; Representation; Discourse; Ideology; Capitalism; Transnational Corporations; Media and Communication Studies; Medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the mediated representation of workers’ working conditions in the Global South. Using a qualitative approach inspired by Critical Discourse Studies, it focuses on ideological representation in newspapers from Sweden, the USA, Chile and China/Hong Kong. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Incumbent Renomination : Accountability and Gender Bias

    Författare :Michal Grahn; Elin Bjarnegård; Johanna Kantola; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; political recruitment; party politics; proportional representation; gender; incumbency; re-selection; accountability; representation; delegation; preference voting; flexible lists; Czech Republic; Slovakia.; Statskunskap; Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : Party recruiters in proportional-representation (PR) systems are forced to do what their majoritarian counterparts are not: they need to rank-order all their candidates on the party ballots based on whom they most wish to get elected. Consequently, new candidates and incumbents alike compete for a limited number of electable ballot slots. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Representation Learning and Information Fusion : Applications in Biomedical Image Processing

    Författare :Elisabeth Wetzer; Nataša Sladoje; Fred Hamprecht; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Representation Learning; Texture Descriptors; Equivariant Neural Networks; Contrastive Learning; Image Classification; Image Registration; Image Retrieval; Digital Pathology; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years Machine Learning and in particular Deep Learning have excelled in object recognition and classification tasks in computer vision. As these methods extract features from the data itself by learning features that are relevant for a particular task, a key aspect of this remarkable success is the amount of data on which these methods train.
