6. RNA Polymerase I regulation by chromatin remodelling
Sammanfattning : Cell proliferation and growth is correlated with effective protein synthesis and ribosome biogenesis. The transcription of the 47S pre-ribosomal RNA by RNA Polymerase I (RNA Pol I) machinery is the rate-limiting step of ribosome biogenesis and can accounts for more than 50% of total cellular transcription. 7. Translational regulation of genes in salmonella typhimurium by vitamin B12
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I have studied the mechanism by which vitamin B12 regulates the expression of the cob operon and the btuB gene in Salmonella typhimurium. The cob operon encodes most of the 25 genes required for the de novo synthesis of vitamin B12, and the butB gene encodes the outer membrane protein needed for transport of exogenous vitamin B12 into the cell. 8. Biogenesis of messenger and ribosomal RNPs in the eukaryotic cell
Sammanfattning : In eukaryotic cells, gene expression involves multi-step processes in the nucleus and the cytoplasm. The different processes engage specific RNA-protein complexes, RNPs. Upon activation of most, if not all genes, a precursor RNA molecule is synthesized that has to be extensively processed and modified. LÄS MER
9. Evolution and Mechanisms of Tigecycline Resistance in Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance is an ongoing global medical crisis and we are in great need of new antibacterial agents to combat rapidly emerging resistant pathogens. Tigecycline is one of few drugs that have been introduced into medicine during the last two decades. LÄS MER
10. Biomolecular simulations, from RNA to protein : thermodynamic and dynamic aspects
Sammanfattning : The process of transforming the information stored in the DNA of genes into functional RNA molecules and proteins via transcription and translation is the most fundamental process of all known life. Even though these processes involve large macromolecules and dynamics on long time scales they all ultimately rely on atomic level interactions between nucleic acids or amino acids. LÄS MER
