  1. 1. The dynamic emplacement of felsic magma in the upper crust

    Författare :Tobias Mattsson; Steffi Burchardt; Karen Mair; Christoph Breitkreuz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laccolith; cryptodome; magma emplacement; magma flow; magma rheology; granite; rhyolite; pluton; AMS; XCT; thermobarometry; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Felsic magma intrudes earth’s upper crust through a variety of mechanisms. Magma intrusion growth and shape have mainly been explained in terms of host rock properties and intrusion depth, while considering the magma as an overpressurised fluid. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Dynamic Modelling of Physical Processes in Magmatic Systems: Dyke Emplacement and Flow-Induced Crystal Rotations

    Författare :Rémi Vachon; Christoph F. Hieronymus; Janine Kavanagh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Numerical solutions; elasticity and anelesticity; fracturing; magmatic plumbing system; sheet-like intrusions; rheology of the crust; physics of magma; solid mechanics; fluid flow; crystal rotation;

    Sammanfattning : The main motivation for this thesis is to develop and improve numerical tools and methods that help further our comprehension of the volcanic plumbing system and its dynamics.The commonly used standard elastic model predicts solutions of dyke shape, thickness, over-pressure and fracturing criteria that do not always fit natural observations. 3. 3. Viscous-brittle deformation of shallowly emplaced silicic magma : Implications for outgassing and volcanic hazards

    Författare :Taylor Witcher; Steffi Burchardt; Edward Llewellin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma deformation; magmatic outgassing; magmatic intrusions; rhyolite; Sandfell laccolith; crystal mush; volcanic hazards; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : Silicic magma in the shallow crust has the potential to violently erupt, depending on its ability to release overpressures caused by magmatic volatiles (outgassing). Deformation-induced outgassing is prevalent along volcanic conduit margins, where ascending magma is sheared at high rates. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Deformation behaviour and chemical signatures of anorthosites: : Examples from southern West Greenland and south-central Sweden

    Författare :Henrik Svahnberg; Sandra Piazolo; Anders Scherstén; Holger Stünitz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anorthosite; plagioclase; deformation; strain localisation; fluid-rock interaction; electron backscatter diffraction EBSD ; Solid earth geology and petrology; Berggrundsgeologi och petrologi; Mineralogy; Petrology and Geochemistry; mineralogi; petrologi och geokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Plagioclase is the most abundant mineral in the lower crust and it is thus important to constrain the behaviour of plagioclase during deformation. Anorthosites, which are plagioclase-rich rocks, are common in Archaean cratons but their origin and rheological importance is still debated. LÄS MER
