  1. 31. Charge Development at Iron Oxyhydroxide Surfaces : The Interplay between Surface Structure, Particle Morphology and Counterion Identity

    Författare :Philipp A. Kozin; Jean-François Boily; Michael Kersten; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Iron oxyhydroxides; adsorption; mineral-water interface; electrolyte; surface roughness; pores;

    Sammanfattning : Iron (oxyhydr)oxide (FeOOH) minerals play important roles in various natural, technological and societal settings. The widespread abundance of these minerals has prompted numerous studies on their surface reactivity in aqueous media. Surface charge development, one that namely takes place through the adsorption of potential determining ions (p.d. LÄS MER

  2. 32. HIV and SIV specific cellular immunity in macaque models

    Författare :Barbro Mäkitalo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular immunity is believed to be an important prerequisite for an effective HIV vaccine. Accruing data from individuals able to contain HIV-1 replication during natural infection underscores the contribution of CD8+ T cells in viral control. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Islet xenograft rejection : studies in the pig-to-rodents and pig-to-primate models

    Författare :Lars Wennberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Xenotransplantation; islets; rejection; porcine; immunosuppression; C-peptide;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis was: 1) to compare islet allo- and xenograft rejection in rats, using immunosuppression with CsA in a mixed allogeneic-xenogeneic islet transplantation model, 2) to evaluate the efficacy of various immunosuppressive drugs, with special reference to Leflunomide, in preventing islet xenograft rejection in the pig-to-rat model, 3) to perform an immunohistochemical study of porcine islet xenograft rejection in primates including primates treated with CsA+DSG, and 4) to study the metabolism and excretion of porcine C-peptide in mice, with special reference to the use of donor-specific C-peptide for monitoring islet xenograft function. In summary, the results were as follows: 1. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Studies on methotrexate and cladribine : bioanalytical, pharmacokinetic, and clinical aspects

    Författare :Freidoun Albertioni; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of these studies was to delineate the pharmacokinetics of methotrexate (MTX) and cladribine in order to improve the basis for individualization and optimization of treatment with these two antimetabolites. Methodological aspects of MTX assays in clinical routine usage were investigated as plasma MTX determinations are mandatory in the high-dose treatment of childhood acute Iymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). 5. 35. Exploratory clinical development of ropivacaine, a local anaesthetic, in ulcerative colitis

    Författare :Eva Arlander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Drug development; ulcerative colitis; ropivacaine; rectal administration; pharmacokinetics; metabolism.;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to explore the clinical pharmacology of ropivacaine gel as a potential new rectal therapy for ulcerative colitis (UC). The studies included pharmacokinetics, tolerability, preliminary efficacy in patients, formulation factors and drug-drug interactions. LÄS MER
