36. Gastrointestinal involvement in familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy : a clinical study
Sammanfattning : Familial Amyloidosis with Polyneuropathy was first recognized in Portugal and reported by Andrade in 1952. The disease is rare, but clustering of the patients has been reported from Portugal, Japan and northern Sweden. The gastrointestinal involvement in the Swedish form of the disease was studied in this investigation. LÄS MER
37. Applications of Laser-Plasma Acceleration
Sammanfattning : This thesis is dedicated to the investigation of laser-plasma particle acceleration concepts. Some of the work was focused on improving electron and proton acceleration for future applications, in terms of maximizing the particle energy and minimizing the divergence of the X-ray beams. 38. Radiological methods in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
Sammanfattning : The dissertation's theme is the critical role of radiology when evaluating two different groups of patients. Firstly, patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) of the cervical spine were studied to evaluate upper spine instability with dynamic computed tomography (CT). LÄS MER
39. Epidemiology of osteoarthritis in Sweden. Register and cohort studies on prevalence and mortality
Sammanfattning : Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis and often causes pain and functional impairment. Despite its high burden on society, knowledge about the occurrence of OA and its associated mortality is sparse. LÄS MER
40. Detection of pulmonary nodules in chest tomosynthesis: Comparison with chest radiography, evaluation of learning effects and investigation of radiation dose level dependency
Sammanfattning : Chest tomosynthesis is a relatively recently introduced technique in healthcare, which produces section images of the chest at a lower radiation dose than computed tomography (CT) and with better depth resolution than conventional chest radiography. The primary aims of the studies described in this dissertation were to compare chest tomosynthesis with conventional radiography, to evaluate the effects of clinical experience and learning with feedback on the performance of observers analyzing tomosynthesis images, and to investigate the effect of radiation dose level in tomosynthesis, in the detection of pulmonary nodules.
