  1. 1. The phencyclidine model of schizophrenia : dysregulation of brain dopamine systems induced by NMDA receptor antagonists

    Författare :Jan M Mathé; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :phencyclidine; MK-801; CNQX; prazosin; tetrodotoxin; dopamine; neurotensin; ventral tegmental area; nucleus accumbens; medial prefrontal cortex;

    Sammanfattning : Non-competitive NMDA receptor antagonists, such as phencyclidine (PCP) and dizocilpine (MK-801) can even acutely induce a drug induced psychotic state which closely resembles schizophrenia. The midbrain dopamine (DA) neurons, which originate in the ventral tegmental area (VTA), are involved in motivational, attentional and cognitive processes, and have also been profoundly implicated in schizophrenia. 2. 2. Human vascular alpha-adrenoceptors. A study of peripheral arteries and veins in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Stig Steen; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : By means of a sensitive myograph and alpha-receptor subtype selective agonists and antagonists the postjunctional alpha-adrenoceptors were characterized in small omental and groin arteries and veins and in long saphenous veins obtained from 52 "healthy" adults during surgery. These vessels were found to have a mixed population of contraction mediating postjunctional alpha-receptors with a predominance of apha1-receptors in the arteries and a predominance of alpha2-receptors in the veins, although regional variations occurred. 3. 3. Hypoxia and auto resuscitation in the neonatal rodent with special reference to the sympatho-adrenal system

    Författare :Shi-Zeng Yuan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :adrenal medulla; apnea; asphyxia; autoresuscitation; catecholamines; SIDS;

    Sammanfattning : Preterm infants exhibit irregular breathing with frequent episodes of apnea, which may be associated with cyanosis and bradycardia. Perinatal asphyxia causes a considerable amount of morbidity and mortality that occurs during early life. Studies of mechanisms responsible for perinatal asphyxia are therefore very important. 4. 4. Adrenergic receptors in brown adipose tissue

    Författare :Jan Svartengren; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to identify adrenergic receptors and to investigate their regulation of physiological processes in brown adipose tissue.Isolated hamster brown fat cells and plasma membrane fractions contained a high number of α1- and β1-adrenergic receptors, as assessed by direct radioligand binding techniques using (3H)prazosin and (-)(3H)dihydroalprenolol, respectively. 5. 5. The role of the serotonergic system and the effects of antidepressants during brain development examined using in vivo PET imaging and in vitro receptor binding

    Författare :Stal Saurav Shrestha; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Serotonin (5-HT) and the serotonergic system, which includes the serotonin transporter (SERT) and the two G protein-coupled 5-HT1A and 5-HT1B receptors, are implicated in the pathophysiology and treatment of several neuropsychiatric disorders including major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety. Two classes of antidepressants—selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which block SERT, and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), which block several monoamine transporters—alter 5-HT levels and modulate the serotonergic system.
