  1. 1. Regulation of Lipoprotein Lipase Activity : an In-vitro Study of a Complex and Dynamic System

    Författare :Oleg Kovrov; Gunilla Olivecrona; Aivar Lookene; Mikael Larsson; Geesje Dallinga-Thie; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Triglyceride Metabolism; Lipoprotein lipase; Angiopoietin-Like Proteins; Apolipoproteins; Isothermal titration calorimetry; Biochemistry; biokemi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The progress of human society outpaces our biological evolution, and this brings unexpected health problems. The industrial revolution brought up dramatic changes in nutrition and lifestyle – we are increasingly shifting towards a nutrient-rich Western-patterned diet and to a sedentary lifestyle. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Angiopoietin-like protein 4 : an unfolding chaperone regulating lipoprotein lipase activity

    Författare :Valentina Sukonina; Gunilla Olivecrona; Lena Kjellen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lipoprotein lipase; angiopoietin-like protein 4; protein folding; human adipose tissue; macrophages; peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta PPARδ ; Medical microbiology; Medicinsk mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is the main enzyme hydrolyzing triglyceride-rich lipoproteins in plasma. Proteoglycan-bound LPL on the vascular endothelium represent the functional pool of active enzyme. LPL is regulated in a tissue specific manner according to metabolic demands. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of prolactin on metabolism - changes induced by hyperprolactinemia

    Författare :Louise Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :prolactin; prolactin receptor; hyperprolactinemia; adipose tissue; lipoprotein lipase; malonyl-CoA; glucose transporter 4; retinol-binding protein 4; adiponectin; lipid oxidation;

    Sammanfattning : High prolactin levels during breast-feeding, is recognized to influence metabolism in order to supply glucose and fat for milk production. Pathologic overproduction of prolactin, hyperprolactinemia, is a condition primarily associated with reproductive disorders; however, the metabolic impact of elevated prolactin indicates that these parameters might be considered in clinical management of the condition. 4. 4. Effects of growth hormone on cardiovascular risk factors and atherosclerosis

    Författare :Maria Leonsson Zachrisson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :growth hormone; pituitary deficiency; dietary fat; cholesterol; low density; lipoprotein; intima-media thickness; IL-6; CRP; TNF-á;

    Sammanfattning : Hypopituitary patients with growth hormone (GH) deficiency (GHD) have increasedmorbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease (CVD). GH treatment has both beneficialand potentially negative cardiovascular effects. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Serum lipoprotein(a) in relation to ischemic heart disease and associated risk factors

    Författare :Lisbeth Slunga; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Lipoprotein a ; lipids; epidemiology; coronary artery disease; coronary angiography; HLA DR; acute-phase protein; myocardial infarction; HMG CoA reductase inhibitor; simvastatin;

    Sammanfattning : Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) consists of an LDL-like particle and the specific protein apo(a), which is very similar to plasminogen. Apo(a) contains repeated kringle structures and a serine protease domain, which cannot be activated by t-PA. Lp(a) is considered to be a predictor for atherosclerotic disease. LÄS MER
