1. Study of Paper Dry Strength Additives on Cellulose Fibres
Sammanfattning : Paper packaging is commonly found in the form of paper and cardboard boxes, but recently paper packing is being used in food packaging, trays, beverage packaging and even paper straws, among others. Paper strength additives have been developed to increase the efficiency of the joint strength and the joint areas and potentially maintain bulk in paper products. LÄS MER
2. The Influence of Polyelectrolytes on the Stability of Colloids
Sammanfattning : The interaction between two colloids with grafted polyelectrolytes in aqueous solution is studied within the primitive model by Monte Carlo simulations. For neutral colloids with grafted polyelectrolytes and in absence of salt the interaction is strongly repulsive in absence of salt. LÄS MER
3. Statistical Mechanical Studies of Titrating Polyelectrolytes
Sammanfattning : Different models and statistical mechanical approximations for titrating polyelectrolytes are studied and the results compared with Monte Carlo simulations and experimental data. Three types of models have been used in the simulations: i) rigid structures and freely jointed chains with ii) rigid bonds and iii) flexible, harmonic bonds. LÄS MER
4. Utilizing Biopolymers in 3D Tumor Modeling and Tumor Diagnosis
Sammanfattning : Cancer represents a significant global public health challenge and ranks as the second mostcommon cause of death in the United States. The onset of cancer entails an initial phasewhere cells lose their polarity and disconnect from the normal basement membrane, allowingthem to form distinct three-dimensional (3D) configurations that interact with adjacent cellsand the surrounding microenvironment. 5. Bacterial adhesion to polyelectrolyte modified materials based on nanocellulose
Sammanfattning : Since the introduction of materials based on cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs), these materials have been studied extensively and are suggested to be suitable for use in, for example, hygiene and health care products. A property not very well studied but that could further increase the usability of CNF products is the possibility of controlling bacterial adhesion to the materials. LÄS MER
