11. The Information-Theoretic Cost of Learning Fading Channels
Sammanfattning : Recent results in communication theory suggest that significant throughput gains in wireless fading networks can be achieved by exploiting network coordination (e.g., CoMP, network MIMO, and interference alignment), provided that each node in the network has perfect channel knowledge. 12. Technical infrastructure networks as socio-technical systems : Addressing infrastructure resilience and societal outage consequences
Sammanfattning : Research area: Modern society is increasingly dependent on a range of technical infrastructure networks including e.g. power, transport and IT networks. This dependence is illustrated by large disturbances which from time to time affect these systems, often to an extent which few did consider possible. LÄS MER
13. Essays on the Infestation of Lake Victoria by the Water Hyacinth
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four essays that seek to estimate the abundance of the water hyacinth in Lake Victoria during the 1990s and analyse its effects on the catchability of fish, estimate the elasticities of catch with respect to the various components of effort in lake Victoria fisheries, and estimate the welfare costs of electricity outages. In the first essay, data on the extent of water hyacinth mat coverage collected from a number of reports and surveys is used to fit time trend water hyacinth mats growth curves for the three sections of Lake Victoria. 14. Performance Analysis of Cognitive Radio Networks under Spectrum Sharing and Security Constraints
Sammanfattning : The cognitive radio network (CRN) concept has been proposed as a solution to the growing demand and underutilization of the radio spectrum. To improve the radio spectrum utilization, CRN technology allows the coexistence of licensed and unlicensed systems over the same spectrum. LÄS MER
15. SDN-Enabled Resiliency in Computer Networks
Sammanfattning : In computer networking, failures, such as breaking equipment, cable cuts, power failures and human errors continuously cause communication interruptions. Such failures may result in dissatisfied customers, loss of product reputation, violation of SLAs and even critical failures in industrial systems. LÄS MER
