16. Visual influences on vestibular compensation and postural control
Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to investigate visual-vestibular interactions in healthy subjects and in patients with a well defined unilateral vestibular lesion (vestibular schwannoma before and six months after translabyrinthine surgery). Visual information is particularly important for balance control during perturbed stance. LÄS MER
17. Environmental Factors of Importance in Myasthenia Gravis : Emphasis on Physical Activity
Sammanfattning : Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease caused by antibodies directed against proteins at the neuromuscular junction (NMJ). The disturbed neuromuscular transmission induces fatigable weakness in skeletal muscles. LÄS MER
18. Studies of genetic mosaicism in rare diseases
Sammanfattning : Mosaicism in human genetics refers to an individual harboring two or more genetic compositions, all derived from the same fertilized egg. Common signs of genetic mosaicism are asymmetric growth, skin aberrations or vascular malformations. LÄS MER
19. Functional analysis of ATM with relevance for primary immunodeficiency and tumor formation
Sammanfattning : Ataxia-telangiectasia is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by cerebellar degeneration with ataxia, ocular and cutaneous telangiectasias, radiosensitivity, chromosomal instability, immunodeficiency, and cancer predisposition in both patients and heterozygous carriers of the gene. The gene responsible for the disorder, ATM, has been identified as a member of a family of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinaserelated genes and is one of the master controllers of the networks that are involved in cell cycle control and response to DNA damage. 20. Image Analysis Techniques for Segmentation, Classification and Presentation of High-Resolution Prometaphase Chromosome
Sammanfattning : The extraction, analysis, and presentation of integrated optical density (IOD) profiles from banded prometaphase chromosome material is an increasingly important clinical method for the detection and analysis of structural aberrations. Particular translocations, duplications, or deletions of genetic material have been shown to be implicated in specific mental or physical disorders. LÄS MER
