6. Application of aerobic granular sludge for municipal wastewater treatment - Process performance and microbial community dynamics under fluctuating conditions
Sammanfattning : Pressures of growing cities, competition for use of urban areas and higher influent loads, are pushing for innovative technologies for wastewater treatment with low demands for land footprint and costs. Furthermore, wastewater treatment is needed to move towards a circular economy by harvest of valuable resources such as nutrients and energy. LÄS MER
7. Investigation of degradation of toxic substances in fungal cultures by mass spectrometric techniques
Sammanfattning : Micropollutants in water are biological or chemical contaminants that are present in ground and surface waters in trace quantities. They are a result of human activity and include pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) and endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs). LÄS MER

9. Optimizing processes for biological nitrogen removal in Nakivubo wetland, Uganda
Sammanfattning : The ability of Nakivubo wetland (which has performed tertiary water treatment for Kampala city for the past 40 years) to respond to pollution and to protect the water quality of Inner Murchison Bay of Lake Victoria was investigated. The aim of this study was to assess the capacity of Nakivubo wetland to remove nitrogen from the wastewater after its recent encroachment and modification, in order to optimize biological nitrogen removal processes using constructed wetland technology. 10. Fortification of soil-based wastewater treatment systems with versatile ubiquitous reactive media for enhanced removal of phosphorus and other pollutants
Sammanfattning : Concerns about potential risks posed by discharge from small-scale wastewater treatment (SWT) systems to receiving water bodies have prompted robust enforcement of national discharge quality standards in rural areas of most developed countries. Consequently, communities in such places are in need of effective technologies with which to achieve compliance. LÄS MER
