  1. 16. Vibrations induced by surface roughness in nonlinear rolling contacts

    Författare :Oskar Erik Lundberg; Ines Lopez Arteaga; Svante Finnveden; Will Graham; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rolling contact; nonlinear contact; contact stiffness; contact filter; state-dependent method; relative displacement; wheel-rail contact; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Sammanfattning : For efficient transportation in either trains, busses or passenger cars, rolling elements such as wheels, tyres, bearings and transmission elements are fundamental. The energy efficiency and the generation of noise and vibrations in rolling contacts depend on the surface roughness of contacting bodies. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Dynamic Characteristics of Floating Breakwaters

    Författare :Aurora Xiaomeng Lei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; floating breakwaters; couplings joints ; dynamic cables; dynamic response; line tension; wave attenuation; wave reflection;

    Sammanfattning : The dynamic behaviour of interconnected floating breakwaters has been studied theoretically and experimentally. For this type of shore-protection system, problems that must be dealt with include wave loads on the breakwaters caused by the interaction between the bodies and the waves, motions of the moored breakwaters caused by the waves, changed wave fields in front of and behind the breakwaters, and forces on the mooring cables and in interconnections between breakwater units. 3. 18. Potential Flow Panel Methods for the Calculation of Free-surface Flows with Lift

    Författare :Carl-Erik Janson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; desingularized; shape optimization; Rankine source; waves; OCTOPUS; dipole; MMA; Dawson operator; boundary layer; vortex; Method of Moving Asymptotes; nonlinear; sailing yacht; four point operator; surface piercing wing; Navier-Stokes; numerical method; lift force; raised panel method; discrete Fourier transform; collocation point shift; potential flow; CFD; free surface; induced drag; SHIPFLOW; dispersion; damping; analytical method; hydrofoil;

    Sammanfattning : Two non-linear Rankine-source panel methods are developed and implemented in the same computer code. The first method uses a four-point upwind operator on the free-surface to compute the velocity derivatives and to enforce the radiation condition while the second method uses an analytical expression for the velocity derivatives and a collocation point shift one panel upstream to prevent upstream waves. 4. 19. Ultralow-loss silicon nitride waveguides for nonlinear optics

    Författare :Zhichao Ye; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ultralow loss; Kerr nonlinear optics; parametric amplifier; DKS microcombs; integrated waveguides; silicon nitride;

    Sammanfattning : The field of nonlinear optics relies on the interaction between high-intensity optical waves and nonlinear media. An integrated waveguide with large refractive index contrast allows to highly confine optical waves in a sub-μm^2 area, thus enhancing the optical intensity. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Theoretical and Experimental Investigations of Nonlinear Flame Instability

    Författare :Li-Zheng Ma; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear hydrodynamic instability; flame propagation and stretch effects; shock induced flame instability; tulip flame formation; interface tracking; the Schlieren technique; level set approach;

    Sammanfattning : Flame instability is both important and difficult to understand. Mechanisms of instability are complex, because instability often involves an interaction between several different physical phenomena, such as an unsteady chemical reaction, unsteady flame propagation generating an unsteady flow, acoustic waves or shock waves.
