  1. 6. Organic dust-induced signaling in human pulmonary epithelial cells : emphasis on effects of cAMP modulation

    Författare :Karin Burvall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : To study signaling transductions in innate immunity a model system was applied where A549 alveolar epithelial type II cells were used as target and organic dust collected in swine confinement buildings as stimulus. The dust represents a complex mixture of feed and faecal particles, dander from swine, bacteria (whole bacteria and cell wall components) and fungi. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Airway responses to NO2 and allergen in asthmatics

    Författare :Charlotte Barck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Air pollution; nitrogen dioxide; asthma; allergic inflammation; eosinophil cationic protein; neutrophilic cells; bronchoalevolar lavage; nasal lavage; induced sputum;

    Sammanfattning : Nitrogen dioxide (N02), a gas produced by combustion, is a common environmental air pollutant. Individuals with asthma are more sensitive to N02 exposure than healthy subjects, according to results from controlled human-exposure studies. N02 can enhance the asthmatic response to inhaled allergen. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Nasal and bronchial airway reactivity in allergic and non allergic airway inflammation

    Författare :Karl-Gustav Kölbeck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Nasal hyperreactivity; airway hyperresponsiveness; Rhinostereometry; organic dust; adhesion molecules; endothelial cells;

    Sammanfattning : In allergic or asthmatic airways disease, upper and lower airways show a uniform eosinophilic inflammation of the mucosa, and bronchial hyperreactivity is a common finding. To study the co- variation of mucosal reactivity in upper and lower airways, histamine challenges of both sites were performed in a group of patients with allergic rhinitis during non-season. 4. 9. On the role of the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor gene in hematopoietic differentiation

    Författare :Gösta Bergh; Helsingborg Kliniska Vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antisense; leukemia; cell cycle; differentiation; hematopoiesis; p16; p53; tumor suppressor genes; RB; oligonucleotides; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to investigate the role of some tumor suppressor gene products (with emphasis on the retinoblastoma suppressor gene product) in the regulation of differentiation and proliferation in leukemic and normal hematopoietic cells. For this purpose, the expression of the tumor suppressor genes RB, p53 and p16 were artificially altered. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Endothelial-leukocyte interactions

    Författare :Maria Olofsson; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Histology; endothelial cell; leukocyte; apoptosis; mitochondria; heparin binding protein; vascular permeability; E-selectin; migration; rolling; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes early inflammatory responses involving interactions between leukocytes and the endothelial lining of the blood vessel wall. An adhesion molecule, E-selectin, which is upregulated on interleukin-1 activated endothelium, was found to mediate rolling between leukocytes and endothelial cells in vivo. LÄS MER
