  1. 16. Human eosinophils and their activation by allergens via danger signal receptors

    Författare :Elin Redvall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :human eosinophils; danger signals; allergen; formyl peptide receptors; CCR3; chemotaxis; degranulation; free oxygen radicals; receptor desensitization;

    Sammanfattning : Human eosinophilic granulocytes are polymorphonuclear cells with a powerful arsenal of cytotoxic substances in their granules, which are mainly found in the gastrointestinal mucosa, and the respiratory and genitourinary tracts. Their physiological role is incompletely understood, although it is likely they protect the mucosal surfaces, perhaps by recognizing danger signals present on microorganisms or released from damaged tissue. 2. 17. Allergic airway disease : studies on diesel exhaust exposures, oxylipins and antioxidants

    Författare :Nirina Larsson; Annelie Behndig; Leif Bjermer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Asthma; allergic rhinits; diesel exhaust; airway inflammation; oxylipins; metabolomics; antioxidants; SVCT2; bronchoscopy; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Allergic airway disease, i.e. allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma, is a common health problem. The prevalence is increasing in most countries of the world. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Pattern-recognition receptors in airway inflammation

    Författare :Anna-Karin Ekman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Airway inflammation is a defining feature of allergic rhinitis and asthma. Bacterial and viral infections are known to cause exacerbations of both diseases, but knowledge about the mechanisms involved is limited. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Neutrophil-induced endothelial barrier dysfunction in acute inflammation : mechanisms and therapeutic strategies

    Författare :Joel Rasmuson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The acute inflammatory response is characterized by recruitment of leukocytes and increased vascular permeability, resulting in the cardinal signs of inflammation; redness, heat, swelling, pain and loss of function. Permeability changes of the vascular wall are important in functional immune responses and host defense. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Investigating problematic severe asthma in children : a translational approach

    Författare :Jon R Konradsen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Children with problematic severe asthma (PA) have persistent symptoms and/or severe exacerbations despite treatment with high doses of currently available asthma medications. The term PA includes children who are difficult to treat due to unidentified exacerbating factors (e.g. LÄS MER
