  1. 6. Characteristics and functions of thymic exosomes in human and mouse

    Författare :Gabriel Skogberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Exosome; thymus; tissue-restricted antigen; Aire; Down syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Thymocytes develop in the thymus to become a functional pool of T-cells in the periphery. To achieve this, the thymocytes go through several steps of maturation and selection within the thymus. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Curing Multiple Sclerosis : How to do it and how to prove it

    Författare :Joachim Burman; Jan Fagius; Angelica Loskog; Sara Mangsbo; Paulo Muraro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; biomarkers; cerebrospinal fluid; cytokines; hematopoietic stem cell transplantation; immunology; magnetic resonance imaging; multiple sclerosis; neuroimmunology; neurology; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a potentially curative treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS) with now more than 600 documented cases in the medical literature. Long-term remission can be achieved with this therapy, but when is it justified to claim that a patient is cured from MS? In attempt to answer this question, the outcome of the Swedish patients is described, mechanisms behind the therapeutic effect are discussed and new tools for demonstration of absence of disease have been developed. 3. 8. Reduced ROS production triggers arthritis / The role of T cells in arthritis pathogenesis

    Författare :Jens Holmberg; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Spleen and lymph nodes Inflammation Reactive oxygen species T cells MHC; serology; Immunology; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to defend a novel mechanism that triggers arthritis susceptibility in both rats and mice through reduced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), but also to introduce a novel model for chronic relapsing arthritis. Five papers are included, all of which employ animal models for rheumatoid arthritis and one that also uses animal models for multiple sclerosis. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Suppressive DNA vaccination in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

    Författare :Anna Lobell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :DNA vaccination; autoimmunity; experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis; multiple sclerosis; T cell receptor; CpG motif; myelin basic protein; myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of a novel method to suppress an organ-specific autoimmune disease, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), by vaccination with DNA encoding autoantigenic peptides. DNA vaccination can produce long-term immunity and generate antigen-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Immunogenetics and treatment of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

    Författare :Robert Weissert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Multiple sclerosis; experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis; major histocompatibility complex; myelin; myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein; T cell receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelities (EAE) is a model of multiple sclerosis (MS). This experimental central nervous system (CNS) disease can be induced in rats by immunization with components of the CNS myelin sheath. LÄS MER
