  1. 1. Suppressive DNA vaccination in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

    Författare :Anna Lobell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; DNA vaccination; autoimmunity; experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis; multiple sclerosis; T cell receptor; CpG motif; myelin basic protein; myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of a novel method to suppress an organ-specific autoimmune disease, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), by vaccination with DNA encoding autoantigenic peptides. DNA vaccination can produce long-term immunity and generate antigen-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Immunological Studies using Human and Canine Model Disorders

    Författare :Kerstin M. Ahlgren; Anna Lobell; Olle Kämpe; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Roland Jonsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Autoimmunity; T cell; T helper cell; B cell; Autoantibodies; Interferon; Interleukin; Dogs; APS-1; Candida albicans; fungus; Immunologi; Immunology; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The studies presented in this thesis focus on human and canine models for autoimmune disease, with the main aim to gain new knowledge about disease mechanisms and to further evaluate the dog as a model for autoimmune disease. Autoimmune Polyendocrine Syndrome type 1 (APS-1) is a hereditary human multiorgan disease caused by mutations in the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) gene. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Molecular Targets in Autoimmune Polyendocrine Syndrome Type1 and Their Clinical Implications

    Författare :Mohammad Alimohammadi; Olle Kämpe; Anna Lobell; Fredrik Rorsman; Tommy Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autoimmunity; autoantibodies; endocrinology; parathyroid; hypoparathyroidism; Addison s disease; pulmonary symptoms; NALP; NALP5; NLR; KCNRG; Molecular medicine; Molekylär medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system attacks and destroys healthy body tissue. Autoimmunity is known to cause a wide range of disorders, and is suspected to be responsible for many more. Most autoimmune disorders are chronic and cause severe morbidity for the patients, and are also costly for society. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Initiation of Autoimmunity in Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis

    Författare :Magnus Isaksson; Anna Lobell; Olle Kämpe; William Agace; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autoimmunity; Cytokines; Dendritic cells; DNA vaccination; EAE; Innate immunity; T helper cells; Toll-like receptors; Type I interferons; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The events that trigger an autoimmune disease remain largely unknown. To study these events animal models are necessary because symptoms of autoimmune diseases are preceded by a long asymptomatic period in humans. LÄS MER

  5. 5. DNA Sequence Variants in Human Autoimmune Diseases

    Författare :Chuan Wang; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Anna Lobell; Jeffrey C. Barrett; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Association study; Gene resequencing; ChIP-seq; Type I interferon system; Systemic lupus erythematosus; Rheumatoid arthritis; Asthma; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Human autoimmune diseases are hallmarked by inappropriate loss-of-tolerance and self-attacking response of the immune system. Studies included in this thesis are focusing on the implication and functional impact of genetic factors in three autoimmune diseases rheumatoid arthritis (RA), asthma, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
