16. Neural circuit mapping af orexigenic systems
Sammanfattning : Orexigenic systems in the brain process appetite and/or hunger information and ultimately coordinate feeding responses. These brain circuits are critical for survival and originally evolved to ensure that we consume sufficient amounts of diverse nutrients to survive future famines. LÄS MER
17. Non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease : modeling and mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder, typically characterized by the progressive death of midbrain dopaminergic neurons projecting from the substantia nigra to other areas within the basal ganglia. Historically, PD has been diagnosed as a purely motor disorder dominated by bradykinesia (slowness of movement), rigidity, resting tremor, and postural instability. LÄS MER
18. Neurorestorative strategies involving neurogenesis, neuronal precursors and stem cells in animal models of Parkinson's disease
Sammanfattning : The general aims of the thesis is to provide evidence for neurogenesis in the adult substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc), where the dopamine-producing neurons lost in Parkinson's disease (PD) reside; to optimize methods used for detecting newborn nerve cells in adult brain regions with a low rate of neurogenesis; to explore the mechanism of nerve cell death in animal models of parkinsonism and early degenerative and restorative changes in nigral cell populations; and to develop a therapeutic approach that could translate into a future restorative disease-modifying strategy in PD. 19. Transcriptome-wide analysis in cells and tissues
Sammanfattning : High-throughput sequencing has greatly influenced the amount of data produced and biological questions asked and answered. Sequencing approaches have also enabled rapid development of related technological fields such as single-cell and spatially resolved expression profiling. LÄS MER
20. Progressive models of Parkinson's disease : behavioural and neurochemical analyses
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder diagnosed based on the presence of motor symptoms, including resting tremor, postural impairment, bradykinesia and rigidity. The pathological hallmarks are degeneration of midbrain dopaminergic neurons and the accumulation of inclusions containing the misfolded protein α-synuclein (termed “Lewy bodies”) throughout the nervous system.
