  1. 1. Collagen-binding integrin α2β1 activity in vivo and in vitro : Effects of platelet-derived growth factor-BB

    Författare :Karina Åhlén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Integrin α2β1; PDGF-BB; fibroblast; interstitial fluid pressure; cytoskeletal interaction; phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase; [Ca2 ]i; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The expression of integrins by two cell clones from a rat colon carcinoma was investigated. Cloned cells that gave rise to regressive tumors, but not cells that gave rise to progressive, lethal, tumors, adhered to interstitial collagens through the integrin α2β1, although both cell types expressed it. 2. 2. Importance of Hyaluronan-CD44 Signaling in Tumor Progression : Crosstalk with TGFβ and PDGF-BB Signaling

    Författare :Helena Porsch; Paraskevi Heldin; Véronique Orian-Rousseau; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :extracellular matrix; growth factor; hyaluronan synthase; hyaluronidase; epithelial-mesenchymal transition; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : In order for solid tumors to metastasize, tumor cells must acquire the ability to invade the surrounding tissue and intravasate into blood- or lymph vessels, survive in the circulation and then extravasate at a distant site to form a new tumor. Overexpression of the glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan, and its adhesion receptor CD44, correlate with breast cancer progression. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Growth factors and their interaction in the regulation of vascular cells : with special reference to diabetes

    Författare :Gunilla Dahlfors; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells plays an important role in the development of atherosclerosis and in restenosis following balloon angioplasty. This study focuses on growth factors associated with diabetic vascular disease and their interaction in the regulation of vascular smooth muscle cell growth. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Neurorestorative strategies involving neurogenesis, neuronal precursors and stem cells in animal models of Parkinson's disease

    Författare :Ming Zhao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Parkinson s disease; substantia nigra pars compacta; adult neurogenesis; stereology; apoptosis; dopamine; tyrosine hydroxylase; nestin; 5-bromodeoxyuridine; [3H]-thymidine; MPTP; 6-OHDA; platelet-derived growth factor-BB;

    Sammanfattning : The general aims of the thesis is to provide evidence for neurogenesis in the adult substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc), where the dopamine-producing neurons lost in Parkinson's disease (PD) reside; to optimize methods used for detecting newborn nerve cells in adult brain regions with a low rate of neurogenesis; to explore the mechanism of nerve cell death in animal models of parkinsonism and early degenerative and restorative changes in nigral cell populations; and to develop a therapeutic approach that could translate into a future restorative disease-modifying strategy in PD. 5. 5. Biosynthesis of Dermatan Sulphate. Enzymatic mechanism and role of cytokines

    Författare :Kerstin Tiedemann; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dermatan sulphate; 4-O-sulfotransferase; Co-polymeric structure; biglycan; decorin; Biochemistry; Biokemi; C5-epimerase; Metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : Dermatan sulphate is a prominent feature of several different proteoglycans and occurs in almost every tissue of the body. It is an unbranched polymer containing the repeating disaccharide unit of N-acetylgalactosamine and D-glucuronic acid or L-iduronic acid. LÄS MER
