  1. 1. Regulation of proton-coupled electron transfer in cytochrome c oxidase : The role of membrane potential, proton pathways and ATP

    Författare :Markus Björck; Peter Brzezinski; Thorsten Friedrich; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; charge transfer; membrane potential; membrane protein; mitochondria; ATP; proton pump; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochrome c oxidase (CytcO) is the final electron acceptor of the respiratory chain. In this chain a current of electrons, derived from degradation of nutrients, along with protons, are used to reduce oxygen to water. The reaction is exergonic and the excess energy is used to pump protons across the membrane. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Sperm Membrane Channels, Receptors and Kinematics : Using boar spermatozoa for drug toxicity screening

    Författare :Alejandro Vicente Carrillo; Heriberto Rodríguez-Martínez; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Rudolf Rigler; Vesa Loitto; Stefan Arver; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Plasma membrane; membrane channels; membrane receptors; kinematics; 3Rprinciples; spermatozoa; boar.;

    Sammanfattning : Internal fertilization usually implies that a spermatozoon, with intact attributes for zygote formation, passes all hurdles during its transport through the female genitalia and reaches the oocyte. During this journey, millions to billions of other spermatozoa perish. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Interaction of Calcium Ions with Lipid Membranes

    Författare :Baharan Ali Doosti; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phospholipid bilayer membrane; membrane dynamics; micromanipulation; calcium ions; cell migration.; membrane nanotube; membrane tubular protrusions; calcium ion concentration gradient; membrane bending; giant unilamellar vesicle;

    Sammanfattning : Bilayer membranes enclose and shield the biological cell and its inner compartments, as well as the tubular networks that exist within and between the cells. Due to their fluidic nature, the membranes are incredibly dynamic and flexible, which allows them to bend, reshape and fuse in response to mechanical and chemical stimuli within their natural microenvironments. 4. 4. Into the Membrane and Beyond : Improving Membrane Protein Over-Expression in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Mirjam Klepsch; Jan-Willem de Gier; Reinhard Grisshammer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Escherichia coli; membrane protein over-expression; proteomics; T7 RNA polymerase; peptide transport; strain engineering; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins fulfil a wide variety of essential functions in the cell and many are (potential) drug targets. Since their natural abundance is usually very low, most membrane proteins have to be over-expressed for functional and structural studies. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Immersed flat-sheet membrane bioreactors for lignocellulosic bioethanol production

    Författare :Amir Mahboubi; Huu Hao Ngo; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lignocellulosic bioethanol; immersed membrane bioreactor; membrane fouling; reverse membrane bioreactor; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Sammanfattning : The rising awareness of the environmental, economic and socio-political impacts of over-exploitation of fossil-based fuel and energy sources, have motivated the transition toward more sustainable and renewable energy sources. Lignocellulosic materials (e.g. LÄS MER
