  1. 1. Post-Glacial History of Sea-Level and Environmental Change in the Southern Baltic Sea

    Författare :Marloes Kortekaas; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kartografi; klimatologi; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; physical oceanography; meteorology; Sedimentologi; Stratigrafi; Stratigraphy; Baltic Sea; geokemi; Petrologi; mineralogi; geochemistry; mineralogy; Petrology; greigite; mineral magnetics; sea-level changes; Holocene; Littorina transgression; geomorphology; pedology; cartography; climatology; meteorologi; Geophysics; Sedimentology; Optically Stimulated Luminescence OSL ; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; Physical geography;

    Sammanfattning : A new palaeoenvironmental record of the post-glacial history of the southern Baltic Sea (~14 ka to present) is presented. During this period, large water level and salinity changes occurred in the Baltic Basin due to opening and closing of connections to the North Atlantic. LÄS MER

  2. 2. From the pancreatic beta cell to the endothelium:Pathophysiological aspects of Type 2 Diabetes

    Författare :Marloes Dekker Nitert; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sekretion; diabetologi; diabetology; insulin secretion; beta cells; glucose tolerance; insulin receptors; IGF-I receptors; endothelial cells; Endokrinologi; Type 2 Diabetes; secreting systems; Endocrinology;

    Sammanfattning : The incidence of Diabetes Mellitus increases globally in epidemic proportions. Type 2 Diabetes is the most prevalent form of Diabetes, comprising 90% of the patients. In Type 2 Diabetes, two processes contribute to the development of the disease: insufficient insulin secretion from the pancreatic ?-cell and insulin resistance of the target organs. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Adsorption of dissolved organic matter in aquatic ecosystems : Effects on composition and reactivity

    Författare :Marloes M. Groeneveld; Lars Tranvik; Dolly Kothawala; Suzanne Tank; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :dissolved organic matter; DOM; carbon; aquatic; adsorption; mineral particles; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Inland waters receive organic matter from terrestrial ecosystems and in situ production. In transit from land to the ocean, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) may be mineralised to inorganic forms (CO2 and CH4) by microbial degradation and photodegradation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. IGF-I receptors, insulin receptors and insulin/IGF-I hybrid receptors in human endothelial cells : with special reference to diabetes

    Författare :Marloes Dekker Nitert; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with diabetes mellitus are known to develop vascular complications, which occur as macroangiopathy, atherosclerosis and mediasclerosis, as well as microangiopathy, e.g. retinopathy and nephropathy. The precise mechanisms causing these complications have not yet been elucidated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Demand Response Polices for the Implementation of Smart Grids

    Författare :Elta Koliou; Lennart Söder; Rudi Hakvoort; Marloes Dignum; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; demand response; smart grids; dynamic pricing; balancing; policy; tariffs; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : With the grasp of a smart grid in sight, discussions have shifted the focus of system security measures away from generation capacity; apart from modifying the supply side, demand may also be exploited to keep the system in balance. Specifically, Demand Response (DR) is the concept of consumer load modification as a result of price signaling, generation adequacy, or state of grid reliability. LÄS MER
