  1. 6. Structural and neurohormonal factors in left ventricular hypertrophy and inhibition of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system

    Författare :Karin Malmqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Left ventricular hypertrophy; RAAS; insulin; sympathetic nervous system; leptin echocardiography; soluble cell adhesion molecules; AT1-recemor blockade; ACE inhibitor; QT dispersion;

    Sammanfattning : Hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a major risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The aim of this thesis was to study how different neurohormonal systems relate to left ventricular mass, and to study structural and functional cardiovascular changes in hypertensive LVH. LÄS MER

  2. 7. The endocrine heart - metabolic actions of atrial natriuretic peptide

    Författare :Amra Jujic; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial natriuretic peptide; type 2 diabetes; rs5068; insulin resistance; glucose dependent insulinotropic peptide; glucagon-like peptide-1; left ventricular hypertrophy;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The natriuretic peptides (NPs), namely atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and bran natriuretic peptide (BNP), which are secreted from cardiomyocytes in response to cardiac wall stress, play a significant role in the regulation of blood pressure, intravascular volume, and cardiac remodeling. Recently, NPs emerged as hormones with metabolic actions such as inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system and inhibition of inflammation, together with lipolysis and adipose tissue browning. 3. 8. The role of fibroblast growth factor-23 in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder

    Författare :Majd A. I. Mirza; Tobias Larsson; Tilman Drüeke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FGF23; FGF-23; CKD; CKD-MBD; cardiovascular disease; vascular function; atherosclerosis; hypertrophy; LVMI; LVH; fractures; bone; fat mass; obesity; apolipoproteins; cholesterol; lipids; Kidney diseases; Njursjukdomar; Cardiovascular medicine; Kardiovaskulär medicin; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) was initially identified as the causative factor of autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets. Further studies confirmed that FGF23 is predominantly expressed in the osteocytes and osteoblasts of bone and that circulating FGF23 acts on the kidney to inhibit renal phosphate reabsorption and 1,25(OH)2D3 hydroxylation. 4. 9. Coarctation of the aorta : register and imaging studies

    Författare :Daniel Rinnström; Bengt Johansson; Michael Henein; Martin Ugander; Gerhard-Paul Diller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; coarctation of the aorta; adult congenital heart disease; hypertension; left ventricular hypertrophy; body mass index; height; weight; register; CMR;

    Sammanfattning : Background Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) constitutes 5-8 % of all congenital heart disease (CHD) and is associated with long-term complications such as hypertension (HTN) and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Factors associated with HTN, LVH, and diffuse myocardial fibrosis, are not yet fully explored in this population. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Common risk factors associated with acute myocardial infarction: Population-based studies with a focus on gender differences

    Författare :Charlotte A Larsson; Samhällsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cortisol; insulin resistance; abdominal obesity; hypertension; type 2 diabetes; population-based; AMI; gender differences; physical activity; left ventricular hypertrophy;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore how the risk for AMI, and the associations between several of its risk factors, differs by gender. Information was collected from four Swedish cohorts: one patient cohort from Skara (1992-1993, n=1149) and three population-based cohorts, i.e. LÄS MER
