1. The endocrine heart - metabolic actions of atrial natriuretic peptide
Sammanfattning : Abstract The natriuretic peptides (NPs), namely atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and bran natriuretic peptide (BNP), which are secreted from cardiomyocytes in response to cardiac wall stress, play a significant role in the regulation of blood pressure, intravascular volume, and cardiac remodeling. Recently, NPs emerged as hormones with metabolic actions such as inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system and inhibition of inflammation, together with lipolysis and adipose tissue browning. 2. Mechanism of pure glucose-dependent insulinotropic activity of a novel imidazoline compound BL11282
Sammanfattning : We developed a novel, pure glucose-dependent, insulinotropic imidazoline compound, BL11282, which directly affects the insulin exocytotic machinery and does not block the KATP channel activity. BL11282 does not induce insulin secretion at basal glucose concentrations, whereas it stimulates insulin secretion at an elevated glucose level. LÄS MER
3. Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide in the brain
Sammanfattning : The hippocampus is an area of active cell proliferation and neurogenesis within the adult mammalian brain. Adult neurogenesis is of great importance for the brain, since it increases neuroplasticity and the ability to respond to environmental stimuli. LÄS MER
4. Trials of Diets for Treatment of Diabetes : A comparison of diets for treatment of type 2 diabetes, aspects on long and short term effects
Sammanfattning : BackgroundType 2 diabetes is a common disease and the prevalence has increased in large parts of the world. In treatment of diabetes the type of diet is of great importance considering metabolic factors such as glucose level and blood lipids. LÄS MER
5. Incretin Hormone Secretion - Studies in Human Subjects
Sammanfattning : Several different hormones are released from the intestine following a meal. In this thesis we have focused on the so called incretin hormones, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). LÄS MER
