11. Design and Synthesis of Enzyme Inhibitors Against Infectious Diseases : Targeting Hepatitis C Virus NS3 Protease and Mycobacterium tuberculosis Ribonucleotide Reductase
Sammanfattning : Infectious diseases, including hepatitis C and tuberculosis, claim the lives of over 15 million people each year. Hepatitis C is caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) which infects the liver and can ultimately result in liver transplantation. HCV is very adaptive as a result of its high mutation rate. LÄS MER
12. A Chemical Approach Toward the Therapeutic Optimization of Cytotoxic Bioconjugates
Sammanfattning : The delivery of cytotoxicity to specific cells was recognized to be the key to the effective, chemical treatment of infectious and neoplastic diseases well over a century ago. In the context of oncology, the primary therapeutic challenge is the distinction between healthy and pathological cells despite their pronounced pheno- and genotypic similarity. LÄS MER
13. Ligands of the Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor : Exploring structure and function of the AT2R ligand C38
Sammanfattning : The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system (RAAS) control blood-pressure regulation, exerted by the main effector peptide angiotensin II (AngII) binding the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R). While hypertension is the most known disease caused by over-activity in RAAS, several proteins in the system exhibit protective functions. LÄS MER
14. Design and synthesis of inhibitors that target the serine protease thrombin, the malarial aspartyl proteases plasmepsin I and II, and the hepatitis C virus NS3 serine protease
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the design, synthesis, and structure-activity relationships of protease inhibitors that target the serine protease thrombin, the malarial aspartic proteases plasmepsin I and II, and the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3 serine protease. Furthermore, the backgrounds of each of the three types of diseases in question are discussed in detail, and consideration is given as to why it is assumed that inhibition of the mentioned proteases will help prevent or cure cardiovascular diseases, malaria, and hepatitis C. 15. Design and Synthesis of Novel Glutamine Synthetase Inhibitors and Development of Palladium(0)-Catalyzed Aminocarbonylation
Sammanfattning : Tuberculosis (TB) is a major infectious disease, killing about 2 million people annually throughout the world. Today's TB treatment is a lengthy procedure involving a combination of antibiotics. No new TB drug has been introduced onto the market in the past 40 years, and the emergence of multi- and extensively drug-resistant TB calls for new drugs. LÄS MER
