  1. 1. Risk Factors for Diabetic Ketoacidosis in Children

    Författare :Johan H Wersäll; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetic ketoacidosis; Type 1 diabetes; Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion; Multiple daily injections; Cerebral edema; Socioeconomic status; Low economic standard; Level of education;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a life-threatening acute complication of diabetes. It is preventable if timely administration of sufficient amounts of insulin is initiated. A large proportion of children are affected by DKA annually, especially at onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D). 2. 2. Beta cell function in autoimmune diabetes in young adults

    Författare :Carina Törn; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ketoacidosis; insulin treatment; prognostic factors; C-peptide; type 2; type 1; IA-2A; ICA; GADA; IAA; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the results from a study of the first four years of diabetes in 879 patients aged 15-34 years at diagnosis. The aims of this study were to compare clinical classification with the presence of autoantibodies, to study the natural course of beta cell function during the first years of disease and to define predictive factors for the remaining beta cell function after diagnosis. 3. 3. Metabolic Control, Morbidity and Mortality in Type 1 Diabetes with Onset in Childhood/Adolescence

    Författare :John Samuelsson; Karin Åkesson; Ragnar Hanås; Lena Hanberger; Ann-Marie Svensson; Jonas Ludvigsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; HbA1c; Mortality; Autoimmune comorbidity;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to study mortality in individuals with onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D) in childhood and adolescence in Sweden, related to clinical characteristics such as metabolic control in childhood/adolescence and comorbidity.  Methods: All studies in this thesis were register-based observational studies using a nationwide and population-based quality register, the paediatric part of the Swe-dish National Diabetes Register (NDR), for identification and collection of clinical data of individuals with T1D diagnosed before 18 years of age. 4. 4. Preventing the Predictable. Type 1 diabetes in children: Risk factors and impact of participation in prospective follow-up

    Författare :Markus Lundgren; Pediatrisk endokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The aim of this thesis was to identify risk factors for type 1 diabetes in children, evaluate the effects of participation in prospective follow-up and the safety of immune tolerance treatment with GAD-Alum in children with islet autoimmunity.Methods: Subjects from the Swedish DiPiS cohort were studied regarding risk factors, cord blood islet autoantibodies and the effects of early severe life events. 5. 5. Genetic Loci Contributing to Spontaneous Autoimmune Diabetes

    Författare :Jessica Fuller; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Lymphopenia; BB Rat; Type 1 Diabetes; T Cell Receptor; Autoimmunity; Gimap;

    Sammanfattning : Background and Aims: Spontaneous type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the BioBreeding (BB) rat mimics human T1D as the rats experience weight loss, polydipsia, polyuria, ketoacidosis, onset during puberty and insulin-dependency within a day after diagnosis. Because the DP rat develops T1D spontaneously, it is a prime laboratory animal for dissecting the genetics of T1D susceptibility without the need for external manipulation. LÄS MER
