6. Sagittal synostosis - surgical outcomes and long-term follow up
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate and compare surgical outcomes in patients with sagittal synostosis operated with the most commonly used surgical methods in Sweden: craniotomy combined with springs, pi-plasty, or H-craniectomy. Paper I is a systematic review that identified the evidence showing that spring-assisted surgery is as efficient as more extensive cranioplasties to be of very low quality, thereby emphasizing the need for more rigorous studies. 7. Intracranial Compliance and Secondary Brain Damage. Experimental and Clinical Studies in Traumatic Head Injury
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) renders the brain more vulnerable to secondary insults. The increased vulnerability can probably be explained by a combination of disturbances in hemodynamics, metabolism and craniospinal dynamics. Reduced ability to compensate for added intracranial volume, i.e. LÄS MER
8. Intracranial Arachnoid Cysts. Epidemiology, Morphology and Surgical Outcome
Sammanfattning : Background: Intracranial arachnoid cysts (AC) are malformations of the arachnoid membrane. They may cause symptoms, either by obstruction of the CSF flow or by compression of adjacent neural tissues. LÄS MER
9. Pediatric caudal anesthesia with reference to spread and intracranial effects
Sammanfattning : Background: Caudal anesthesia is, since 1933, the most common regional anesthetic technique used in children and has hitherto been described as a safe and straightforward method. Recent research has shown that a high-dose (1. LÄS MER
10. Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in the Elderly
Sammanfattning : Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a disease with high risk of mortality and morbidity. Elderly patients have an even higher risk of poor outcome. The incidence of SAH increases with age and the elderly constitute a substantial and increasing proportion of the population. Thus, the management of elderly SAH patients is an imminent clinical challenge. LÄS MER
