1. Ash Products for Nutrient Recycling in Forestry : Leaching and Drying Characteristics
Sammanfattning : As the demand for carbon dioxide neutral energy sources increases, forestry becomes more intensive. Entire trees are removed from the felling sites threatening the nutrient balance of the forest soils. LÄS MER
2. Perceptions of intensive forestry and multi-storey wood frames among Swedish actors
Sammanfattning : Implementation of intensive forestry (fertilization, cultivation of non-native tree species, and clone cultivation) on part of the forested land area in Sweden and an increased construction of wood-framed multi-storey buildings can contribute to reduce the net carbon dioxide emissions of the built environment. This thesis evaluates the acceptance of and interest in intensive forestry and multi-storey wood frames among different actors, and some of the underlying reasons for their approach. LÄS MER
3. Carbon Balance Implications of Forest Biomass Production Potential
Sammanfattning : Forests in boreal and temperate forest-ecosystems have importance for carbonbalance since they sequester large amount of atmospheric carbon by uptake ofcarbon-dioxide during photosynthesis, and transfer and store carbon in the forestecosystem. Forest material can be used for bio-fuel purposes and substitute fossilfuels, and supply wood products, which can replace carbon-and-energy-intensivematerials. LÄS MER
4. Forest floor vegetation in Sweden : impacts of intensified forestry, nutrient addition and changes in forest structure
Sammanfattning : In boreal forests, dwarf-shrubs (Vaccinium spp.) often dominate the forest floor and are key-stone species in ecosystems due to their importance for nutrient cycling and as a major food source for herbivores. Forestry affects the vegetation both directly through management and indirectly by altering the forest structure. LÄS MER
5. Forage feeding in intensive lamb production : intake and performance in ewes and lambs
Sammanfattning : Successful feeding strategies of periparturient ewes and growing lambs are essential in intensive indoor lamb production. This thesis evaluated the effects of chopping grass silage and of mixing silage with concentrate on feed intake, dietary selection, chewing behaviour, faecal particle size and performance in pregnant and lactating ewes and in suckling and finishing lambs.
