16. Aspects of Heat Flow in Laser Processing of Metals
Sammanfattning : Since the laser was invented in 1960, its use in manufacturing industry has been growing rapidly. Laser processing of metals is based on the flow of heat that is generated by the absorbed laser beam. LÄS MER
17. Transition Metal-Catalyzed Redox Reactions : A Journey from Homogeneous Ruthenium to Heterogeneous Palladium Catalysis
Sammanfattning : The first part of the thesis covers the development and utilization of electronically modified (pentaarylcyclopentadienyl)Ru-complexes in the racemization of secondary alcohols. This study revealed that the electronic properties of the substrate were the main factors dictating whether β-hydride elimination or hydride re-addition becomes the rate-determining step of the racemization process. 18. On the Role of Interfaces in Small Scale Plasticity
Sammanfattning : The strong evidence for a size dependence of plastic deformation in polycrystalline metalsis the basis for the research presented in this thesis. The most important parameter for this, and arguably also the most well known, is the grain size. As the size of the grains in a microstructure is decreased the yield stress increases. LÄS MER
19. Reactive High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering of Metal Oxides
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis deals with reactive magnetron sputtering processes of metal oxides with a prime focus on high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS). The aim of the research is to contribute towards understanding of the fundamental mechanisms governing a reactive HiPIMS process and to investigate their implications on the film growth. LÄS MER
20. Intricate aspects of the thioredoxin system in redox signaling
Sammanfattning : Reversible modifications of redox sensitive protein thiols by reactive oxygen and nitrogen species have emerged as a major posttranslational mechanism that affects the function of the respective proteins and therewith all downstream events. These modifications can be reversed by redox catalysts of which the thioredoxin system forms one of the most prominent. LÄS MER
