11. Generation of cortical neurons through reprogramming technology
Sammanfattning : The human cortex is affected by several debilitating acute and chronic neurodegenerative disorders such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease, which target specific types of cortical neurons. Emerging evidence indicates that stem cells and reprogrammed cells can be used to generate human cortical neurons both for cell replacement by transplantation, and for disease modeling and drug screening. 12. Anti-epileptic and neuroprotective mechanisms by Topiramate and Levetiracetam evaluated in primary cultures
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate plausible intracellular mechanisms of action for antiepileptic drugs, Topiramate (TPM) and Levetiracetam (LEV), and to investigate if TPM possesses neuroprotective properties. The thesis is based on results from calcium imaging, immunohistochemical stainings, viability tests, and Western blot using primary cortical or hippocampal cultures, or hippocampal brain slices. 13. In vitro cellular models for neurotoxicity studies : neurons derived from P19 cells
Sammanfattning : Humans are exposed to a variety of chemicals including environmental pollutants, cosmetics, food preservatives and drugs. Some of these substances might be harmful to the human body. LÄS MER
14. Generating GABAergic interneurons through reprogramming and differentiation strategies : English
Sammanfattning : In recent years reprogramming techniques, differentiation protocols, and sequencing analysis have opened a field for generating and studying human-derived neurons with greater potential than ever before. This has generated a large number of studies with the goal of deriving bona fide neurons. LÄS MER
15. CRISPR/Cas9-based therapies and the role of astrocytes in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are the two most common neurodegenerative disorders. Whereas the AD brain features plaques of amyloid-beta (Aβ) and neurofibrillary tangles of tau, the PD brain is characterized by Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites containing α-synuclein (αSyn). LÄS MER
