  1. 11. A Finite Element Model of the Human Head for Simulation of Bone-conducted Sound

    Författare :You Chang; Stefan Stenfelt; Namkeun Kim; Frank Böhnke; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone conduction; finite element model,bone-conduction devices;

    Sammanfattning : Bone conduction is usually understood as the hearing sensation based on the vibrations of the skull bone and surrounding tissues. The fact that vibration of the skull bones can result in a sound percept has been known for a long time. However, it is difficult to give a general definition of BC sound. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Malleus fracture : experimental and clinical aspects

    Författare :Anders Niklasson; Krister Tano; Magnus Von Unge; Preben Homøe; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; malleus fracture middle ear human temporal bone laser doppler vibrometry; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Patients with malleus fractures are described as rare in the literature. The cause of these fractures are most commonly trauma and digital manipulation of the ear canal, while in some cases the causes are unknown. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Clinical and pathogenic aspects of otitis media

    Författare :Anna Granath; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : One study on clinical treatment strategies in otitis media and two studies elucidating immunological events in otitis media in vitro, were conducted and joined in this thesis. First, topical treatment with or without systemic antibiotics against tube associated otorrhea in children with recurrent acute otitis media was evaluated. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Vestibular schwannoma : Clinical, Epidemiological and Biochemical perspectives

    Författare :Christine Ölander; Göran Laurell; Per Olof Eriksson; Helge Rask-Andersen; Olafur Gudjonsson; Elina Mäki-Torkko; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vestibular schwannoma; surgical complications; hearing; fall-related injury; proteomics; endolymphatic sac; epidemiology; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; Oto-rhino-laryngologi; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Vestibular schwannoma (VS) is a slow growing benign tumour originating in the Schwann cells surrounding the vestibulocochlear nerve. Over recent decades, the incidence rate for VS has steadily increased, with greater numbers of patients with smaller tumours being diagnosed. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Structural diversity of the lipid A and core oligosaccharide moieties of the lipopolysaccharides from nontypeable and serotype f Haemophilus influenzae

    Författare :Håkan H. Yildirim; Elke Schweda; Andrzej Gamian; Södertörns högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Haemophilus influenzae; LPS; biosynthesis; NMR; ESI-MS;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes structural studies of the oligosaccharide and lipid A moieties of lipopolysaccharides (LPSs) isolated from disease-causing Haemophilus influenzae strains. The nontypeable strains were clinical isolates from the middle ear of children suffering from otitis media and the serotype f strains had been collected from three adults with respiratory tract infections.
