  1. 1. Genetic Sex Differences in Early Human Neuronal Development : An Investigation in Embryo Tissue and Embryonic Stem Cells

    Författare :Philipp Pottmeier; Elena Jazin; Armin Raznahan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sex chromosome; gametolog; x y homolog; male; female; sex differences; sex bias; embryonic stem cells; neurodevelopment; neuronal differentiation; neural stem cells; genetics; neurodevelopmental disorders; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Organismal Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär organismbiologi; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Sex differences in the human body affect many different organs and tissues, some of them have an effect on the human brain and its development. In the developing nervous system, sex differences can bias the number or functionality of neurons, glial cells or synapses. As a result, neural networks might develop with a sex-specific bias. 2. 2. ASNA1 and cisplatin resistance : studies in C. elegans and in human tumor cells

    Författare :Oskar Hemmingsson; Peter Naredi; Mef Nilbert; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ASNA1; Cisplatin; C. elegans; Drug resistance; Apoptosis; Surgery; Kirurgi; Oncology; Onkologi; Surgery; kirurgi; Oncology; onkologi; cellforskning; cell research;

    Sammanfattning : Platinum based chemotherapy is widely used to treat cancer. Cisplatin (diamminedichloroplatinum) combination treatments provide cure for metastatic testicular cancer and prolong survival for patients suffering from ovarian, head and neck, bladder and non small cell lung cancer. 3. 3. Molecular mechanisms of human mitochondrial dynamics : inspiration and challenge

    Författare :Rong Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles in cells. They frequently change the morphology via continuous fission and fusion events, referred to as mitochondrial dynamics, which includes the shape, size and number of mitochondria in the cell, as well as mitochondrial subcellular distribution and mitochondrial quality control. 4. 4. Novel aspects of metabolic regulation and inflammation in human adipocytes

    Författare :Annie Pettersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The significance of adipose tissue and obesity has been recognized in numerous pathologies. However, the mechanisms behind this connection are not yet completely understood. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Characterization of candidate disease genes from human chromosomes 11g13 and 22q

    Författare :Darek Kedra; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Fugu rubripes; 11q13 region; MEN1; menin; GCK; DMPKL; meningioma; clathrin; adaptin; NIPSNAP; synaptogyrin; TOM1; SMARCB1;

    Sammanfattning : Two regions of the human genome, 11q13 and 22q, have been shown to harbor numerous disease-related genes, among them tumor suppressor genes (TSGs). The aim of this project was to construct transcription maps within these chromosomal segments, and thus provide a basis for further analysis of some of the genes for their involvement in disease-related processes.
