1. New methods for the synthesis of N-heteroaromatics and imines
Sammanfattning : This thesis is divided in four chapters, containing the work realised in two universities and has as the aim the synthesis of nitrogen-containing compounds. The first chapter describes the project realised at The University of Sheffield. LÄS MER
2. Novel monogalactoside galectin inhibitor scaffolds : Guiding selectivity with heteroaromatic interactions
Sammanfattning : Carbohydrates are involved in many cellular processes, and most biomolecules are glycosylated. Thesemodifications are used in biological systems as information carriers, helping regulate organization on the cell surfaceand interactions between cells and the environment. LÄS MER
3. Transition metal-catalyzed reduction of carbonyl compounds : Fe, Ru and Rh complexes as powerful hydride mediators
Sammanfattning : A detailed mechanistic investigation of the previously reported ruthenium pseudo-dipeptide-catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of aromatic ketones was performed. It was found that the addition of alkali metals has a large influence on both the reaction rate and the selectivity, and that the rate of the reaction was substantially increased when THF was used as a co-solvent. 4. Live long and phosphor : synthesis of new 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole based scaffolds and novel organo-Au(I) luminophores
Sammanfattning : 2,1,3-Benzothiadiazole (BTD) has arisen as a scaffold of interest to a variety of fields including materials chemistry and medicinal chemistry. It is utilized in the development of light emitting materials, solar-cells, and batteries. LÄS MER
5. Detection of Biomolecules: Syntheses and Studies of Minor Groove Binding Unsymmetrical Cyanine Dyes and Chromogenic Enzyme Substrates
Sammanfattning : Visualisation or detection of biomolecules is usually achieved by the use of fluorescent or highly coloured chromophores. The work presented in this thesis deals with the development of new chromogenic substrates for the detection of enzyme activity, and new DNA-binding fluorescent dyes for staining of DNA. LÄS MER
