21. Essays on externalities, regulation, institutions, and firm performance
Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to the empirical analysis of how externalities—the nonexistence of private markets in some good or the absence of sufficient incentives to establish such markets— affect firm performance and growth. A minor part investigates a direct link between positive externalities, in the form of localized knowledge spillovers, and firm growth, by testing the so-called local export spillover hypothesis: Exporting firms in a region may reduce export entry costs for other local firms through export-related informal knowledge and information flows. 22. Post-traumatic stress disorder and resilience in children of traumatised parents
Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to explore the possible association between parents severe emotional trauma and their children's psychopathology (Transgenerational transmission of parents' traumatic experiences to their children), as well as resiliency factors and the relationship between prolonged traumatisation and personality development. The association between parental trauma and children s psychopathology was explored by investigating a group of parents with torture experiences, a group without torture experiences, and the children in both groups. 24. Street Working Children in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq followed over 16 years : Mental Health and Traumatization
Sammanfattning : The overall aims of the research this thesis is based upon were to assess mental disorders and trauma experiences of street working boys in Duhok (in the Kurdistan region of Iraq), compare them with schoolboys of the same community, follow the street working boys into adulthood, and examine the continuity of mental disorders, as well as their adult perspectives on their previous street work.A group of 100 street working boys was examined in 2004–2005, and 40 of the same group (as adults) in 2021. 25. Evaluation of retrospective patient record review as a method to identify patient safety and quality information in orthopaedic care
Sammanfattning : The great benefits of modern healthcare must be weighed against the risk of patient injury due to human intervention. Studies show that adverse events (AE) are identified in up to 16.6% of all hospitalisations. As a step toward preventing AEs, efforts are made to collect patient safety information at different levels in the healthcare systems. LÄS MER
