1. Inferring demographic history and speciation of grouse using whole genome sequences
Sammanfattning : From an ecological perspective, knowledge of demographic history is highly valuable because population size fluctuations can be matched to known climatic events, thereby revealing great insight into a species’ reaction to past climate change. This in turn enables us to predict how they might respond to future climate scenarios. LÄS MER
2. European Black Grouse : MHC Genetic Diversity and Population Structure
Sammanfattning : Black grouse Tetrao tetrix is a bird species composed of large, continuous as well as severely reduced and fragmented populations, making it an optimal species to investigate how genetic diversity is affected by habitat fragmentation. I have focused on genetic diversity in the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) to measure the ability of the black grouse to respond to environmental changes. LÄS MER
3. Population Genetic Structure of Black Grouse (Tetrao tetrix) : From a Large to a Fine Scale Perspective
Sammanfattning : Black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) is a bird species with a lek mating system found in the Palearctic boreal taiga. It is assumed that it has a continuous distribution along Scandinavia and Siberia, whereas in Central Europe it has declined during the last decades. LÄS MER
4. Divergence, selection, demographic history and conservation genomics of sibling bird species in boreal forest in Northern Eurasia and the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau
Sammanfattning : I used two pairs of sibling boreal forest bird species to study divergence, selection, demographics, and conservation in northern Eurasia and the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau at the microsatellite level (chapter 1) and whole genome level (chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5). In chapter 1, which is the first study to describe genetic diversity of the Sichuan Jay, I used microsatellite markers to estimate genetic differentiation in Sichuan Jay and Siberian Jay populations. 5. Grouse - habitat relationships : monitoring, scale, and management
Sammanfattning : Fennoscandian grouse populations are facing habitat degradation and are in decline, though not to the same degree as in western and central Europe. To be able to identify factors causing population decline and initiate proper management actions, a well functioning monitoring program and management are essential. LÄS MER
