   Sammanfattning : Stockholm, in just a few decades, was transformed from a largely medieval fortress town to a modern capital city. The street regulation which was carried out in Stockholm during the years 1625-1650 and which in the central parts of the city still exist as a recognizable pattern for streets and city blocks was an important part of this transformation. This study explores the characterization of the Virgin in the poetic works of Romanos the Melodist (ca. 490–560), the great composer of the so-called kontakion.
