  1. 36. Scalable Optimization Methods for Machine Learning : Acceleration, Adaptivity and Structured Non-Convexity

    Författare :Vien Van Mai; Mikael Johansson; John Duchi; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Large-scale optimization; Anderson acceleration; first-order methods; stochastic optimization; momentum; gradient clipping; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at developing efficient optimization algorithms for solving large-scale machine learning problems. To cope with the increasing scale and complexity of such models, we focus on first-order and stochastic methods in which updates are carried out using only (noisy) information about function values and (sub)gradients. 2. 37. Middle Ear Pressure; A New Method for Continuous Direct Measurements

    Författare :Bo Tideholm; allergi och livskvalitet Laryngoesofagologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; man; physiology; sleep; posture; pressure; patulous Eustachian tube; middle ear; Ear; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Sammanfattning : Disturbances in the pressure homeostasis of the middle ear (ME) system cause a pressure gradient across the tympanic membrane lessen the effectiveness of sound transmission and may be associated to development of chronic ME disease. An equipment for continuous direct pressure measurements was developed and was found to be accurate, base-line stabile and portable. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Inference techniques for stochastic nonlinear system identification with application to the Wiener-Hammerstein models

    Författare :Giuseppe Giordano; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear systems; system identification; stochastic; Maximum Likelihood; Wiener-Hammerstein; Monte Carlo; Newton s method;

    Sammanfattning : Stochastic nonlinear systems are a specific class of nonlinear systems where unknown disturbances affect the system's output through a nonlinear transformation. In general, the identification of parametric models for this kind of systems can be very challenging. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Miniaturised Microwell-based Cell Assays

    Författare :Emilie Weibull; Helene Andersson Svahn; Albert van den Berg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microwell; miniaturisation; high-resolution imaging; high-throughput; cell culture; single-cell; clone; heterogeneity; antibiotic susceptibility testing; concentration gradient; interfacing; microchannels; cell retrieval;

    Sammanfattning : Cell heterogeneity in genetically identical cell populations is becoming a well-known and important phenomenon in cell biology. Current methods commonly utilise population-based analysis founded on averaged result. Hence there is a need for high-throughput cell assays on the single-cell level. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Retrieval of Wind Velocity Vectors Over the Ocean Surface with Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar

    Författare :Gisela Carvajal; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wind vector; wind direction; synthetic aperture radar SAR ; CMOD-IFR2; local gradient.; ocean winds; wind speed;

    Sammanfattning : Wind over the ocean (normally defined at 10 meter height) is one of the main parameters affectingsea state, generating waves and driving currents. Wind field maps with large area coverageand high resolution therefore represent valuable information for a wide range of applications such asinformation for shipping, which carries 80% of the world’s trade, oil platforms and other maritime infrastructures,modeling, analysis and validation of weather models, improving performance of sensorsonboard maritime infrastructures, etc. LÄS MER
