  1. 1. Functional hybrid and composite porous membranes derived from imidazolium-type poly(ionic liquid)

    Författare :Atefeh Khorsand Kheirabad; Jiayin Yuan; Naser Tavajohi Hassan Kiadeh; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; poly ionic liquid ; porous polyelectrolyte membranes; composite materials; functional membranes; materialkemi; Materials Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Poly(ionic liquid)s (PIL)s, as a subclass of polyelectrolytes, are composed of polymeric backbones with ionic liquid (IL)-based species in each repeating unit. Recent studies have deepened the understanding of the PIL concept in terms of characteristics, functions and applications in comparison to classical ILs and traditional polyelectrolytes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Sulfonated Cellulose Membranes for Energy Storage Applications

    Författare :Sanna Lander; Xavier Crispin; Viktor Gueskine; Mikhail Vagin; Aji Mathew; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nanocellulose; Membranes; Ionic transport; Redox flow batteries;

    Sammanfattning : In the ongoing efforts to reduce the dependency of mankind on fossil fuels for the supply of energy, renewable energy sources such as solar cells and wind turbines are employed to an increasing extent. Transitioning a large portion of electrical grids to intermittent power sources come with several problems that need to be taken into account and handled, such as ensuring supply at peak power demand and considering frequency regulation and other issues related to the stability of the grid. 3. 3. Processing and characterization of membranes based on cellulose nanocrystals for water purification : Nanocellulose as functional entity

    Författare :Zoheb Karim; Marielle Henriksson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Trä och bionanokompositer; Wood and Bionanocomposites;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane technology is being extensively used in water purification as an energy efficient and low cost process. Nanostructured (NSM) and nanoenabled (NEM) membranes are favored in this context as nanoscaled entities are expected to provide high surface area, high mechanical properties and versatile surface chemistry as well as provide better control on the pore size and distribution, flux and selectivity of the membrane. 4. 4. From Responsive Interfaces to Honeycomb Membranes by Controlled Radical Polymerisation

    Författare :Daniel Nyström; Anders Hult; Søren Hvilsted; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Isoporous membranes; Silica nanoparticles; ATRP; Functional surfaces; cellulose; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Sammanfattning : In this study, surface modification of both organic and inorganic substrates (in terms of cellulose and silica nanoparticles, respectively) has been explored using surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerisation (ATRP). The desire to modify bio-based materials to fit into new application areas and the need for bio-based materials with improved material properties is steadily increasing due to environmental concern. Sammanfattning : Bacteria of the family Gemmataceae belong the phylum Planctomycetes and are remarkable because of their complex cellular architectures, previously considered to be traits exclusive to eukaryotes. This thesis provides clues to the atypical cell envelope, the enhanced radiotolerance and the amazing cellular complexity of these bacteria. LÄS MER
