  1. 21. Nutritional effects of barley products — Mechanisms of action in the intestinal tract

    Författare :Yadong Zhong; Kemicentrum Centrum för preventiv livsmedelsforskning; []
    Nyckelord :dietary fibre; malting; probiotics; high-fat diets; short-chain fatty acids; gut microbiota; low-grade inflammation; gene expression; Barley;

    Sammanfattning : Barley is one of the most important crops in the world. Although it is mainly used as the raw material for the production of beer and animal feed, it has recently attracted interest from nutritionists and consumers, due to its high content of dietary fibre, especially β-glucan, and its relation to various positive health effects. 2. 22. The flow of pulp suspensions

    Författare :Helena Fock; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pulp suspensions; Velocity profile; Concentration profile; Wall layer; Particle image velocimetry; Flow behaviour; Computational fluid dynamics; Ultrasound velocity profiling;

    Sammanfattning : Large quantities of pulp suspensions are handled in the pulp and paper industry and knowledge of their flow behaviour is very important in the design and operation of process equipment. Despite this, there is still a lack of a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of the pulp suspension flow. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Modification of fluff pulp fibres: Cross-linking and alkali extraction

    Författare :Kristoffer Lund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fibre network; dry defibration; network strength; fluff pulp; Absorption; cross-linking; alkali extraction; kraft pulp;

    Sammanfattning : Fluff pulp has been one of the key components of hygienic products, such as diapers, for many years. Fluff pulp is dry defibrated and air-laid into the absorption core of diapers. The introduction of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) in the 1980s decreased the dependence on fluff pulp, as the SAPs became the main absorbing material. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Polyelectrolyte Complexes : Their Characterization and use for Modification of Wood Fibre Surfaces

    Författare :Linda Gärdlund; Lars Wågberg; Robert Pelton; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik; Chemical engineering;

    Sammanfattning : For economical reasons filler particles and less expensive fibre raw materials are more frequently used in papermaking. This influences the mechanical properties of the formed papers in a negative way and it is therefore necessary to add strength-enhancing agents to the papermaking furnish. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Glycaemic Response in Relation to Gastric Emptying and Satiety in Health and Disease

    Författare :Joanna Hlebowicz; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Nyckelord :Diabetes; Cinnamon; Satiety; Healthy subjects; Gastroparesis; Blood Glucose; Ultrasound; Gastric emptying; Whole-kernel; Dietary fibre; Beta-glucan; Wheat; Oat;

    Sammanfattning : Dietary fibre and whole grains are recommended to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes. Low glycaemic index foods that are rich in fibre are recommended to control blood glucose levels. Gastric emptying, together with other factors, regulate the postprandial blood glucose response.
