  1. 26. Single limb exercises in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease : feasibility, methodology, effects and evidence

    Författare :Andre Nyberg; Karin Wadell; Britta Lindström; Monika Fagevik Olsén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; elastic resistance; exercise capacity; health-related quality of life; randomized controlled design; single limb exercises; systematic review; study protocol;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. COPD is a slowly progressive, inflammatory disease in the airways and lungs, caused mainly by smoking. The inflammation leads to a narrowing of the small airways (airway obstruction) and a destruction of tissue in the lungs. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Physical activity in patients with heart failure : motivations, self-efficacy and the potential of exergaming

    Författare :Leonie Klompstra; Tiny Jaarsma; Anna Strömberg; Felicity Astin; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background: Adherence to recommendations for physical activity is low in patients with heart failure (HF). It is essential to explore to what extent and why patients with HF are physically active. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Pump Physiology in the Remodeled Heart

    Författare :Björn Östenson; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac magnetic resonance; cardiac remodeling; exercise imaging; exercise physiology; regional contributions to stroke volume; feature-tracking strain; atrioventricular plane displacement; atrioventricular coupling; ventricular-arterial coupling; clinical physiology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to increase the understanding of pump physiology in the remodeled heart compared to normal pump physiology.Study I was a cross-sectional observatory study investigating the regional contributions to stroke volume in patients with heart failure prior to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) and tested the hypothesis that this characterization of pumping could predict CRT response. 4. 29. Depression in older people with and without dementia : non-pharmacological interventions and associations between psychotropic drugs and mortality

    Författare :Gustaf Boström; Håkan Littbrand; Erik Rosendahl; Peter Nordström; Knut Engedal; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Depression; Dementia; Exercise; Randomized controlled trial; Psychotropic drugs; Mortality; Gender; Residential facilities; Frail elderly; Epidemiology; Cohort study; geriatrik; Geriatrics; sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate associations between psychotropic drug use and death, associations between functional capacity, dependency in ADL and depression, and to evaluate a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce depressive symptoms, among older people with and without dementia.There is limited knowledge about the risk of death associated with psychotropic drug use among those aged ≥85 years, those with dementia, or those living in residential care facilities; groups that have a higher intake of psychotropic drugs and who are also more prone to adverse drug reactions. 5. 30. Nutritional status, body composition and physical activity among older people living in residential care facilities

    Författare :Maine Carlsson; Yngve Gustafson; Frode Slinde; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nutritional status; constipation; BW loss; UTI; body composition; exercise; muscle mass; functional balance; Nutrition; Näringslära; näringslära; Nutrition;

    Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis was to study, whether drinkable yoghurt enriched with probiotic bacteria could have any effect on constipation and body weight (BW) among older people with dementia. Further, it concerns poor nutritional status among older people with physical and cognitive impairments and its relationship with factors commonly occur in older people living in residential care facilities.
