    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aged; dementia; exercise; frail elderly; nutrition; randomized controlled trial; residential facilities; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi; sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : The main purposes of this thesis were to evaluate a high-intensity functional weight-bearing exercise programme, regarding its applicability (attendance, achieved intensity, adverse events) as well as its effect on physical functions and activities of daily living (ADL) among older people living in residential care facilities, with a special focus on people with dementia. Furthermore, a main purpose was to systematically review the applicability and effects of physical exercise on physical functions, cognitive functions, and ADL among people with dementia. LÄS MER

    Författare :Gustaf Boström; Håkan Littbrand; Erik Rosendahl; Peter Nordström; Knut Engedal; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Depression; Dementia; Exercise; Randomized controlled trial; Psychotropic drugs; Mortality; Gender; Residential facilities; Frail elderly; Epidemiology; Cohort study; geriatrik; Geriatrics; sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate associations between psychotropic drug use and death, associations between functional capacity, dependency in ADL and depression, and to evaluate a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce depressive symptoms, among older people with and without dementia.There is limited knowledge about the risk of death associated with psychotropic drug use among those aged ≥85 years, those with dementia, or those living in residential care facilities; groups that have a higher intake of psychotropic drugs and who are also more prone to adverse drug reactions. Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to investigate the importance of physical function for survival in very old people, and furthermore, whether physical exercise could influence physical function, cognitive function, and dependence in activities of daily living (ADLs) in older people with dementia living in nursing homes.The world’s population is ageing. 5. 5. Blood pressure in very old age : determinants, adverse outcomes, and heterogeneity

    Författare :Bodil Weidung; Yngve Gustafson; Håkan Littbrand; Bo Carlberg; Peter Nordström; Sölve Elmståhl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood pressure; aged 80 and over; hypertension; hypotension; mortality; stroke; gait speed; cognition disorders; dementia; cohort study;

    Sammanfattning : Background: High blood pressure (BP) is the leading risk factor for disease and mortality worldwide. However, risks associated with high BP in very old age (≥ 80 or ≥ 85 years) are not entirely understood, as the majority of scientific studies have been performed with younger populations and existing scientific knowledge about very old individuals is sometimes contradictory.
