  1. 31. Translational Research of Mendelian Disorders : Applications of Cutting-Edge Sequencing Techniques and Molecular Tools

    Författare :Sanna Gudmundsson; Marie-Louise Bondeson; Maria Wilbe; Niklas Dahl; Joris Veltman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; translational research; Mendelian disorders; intellectual disability; sequencing technologies;

    Sammanfattning : Up to 8% of all live-born children are affected with a congenital disorder. Some are Mendelian disorders of known etiology, but many are of undetermined genetic cause and mechanism, limiting diagnosis and treatment. LÄS MER

    Författare :Cecilia Henricson; Björn Lyxell; Claes Möller; Björn Lidestam; Håkan Alm; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Usher syndrome; Cognition; Phonological skills; Lexical Access; Working memory; Reading; Theory of Mind; Deafblindness; Ushers syndrom; Kognition; Fonologisk förmåga; Lexikal access; Arbetsminne; Läsning; Theory of Mind; Dövblindhet;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis belongs to the research area disability research and deal with specific aspects of cognition in individuals with Usher syndrome type 1 and 2. The subject has been investigated and is discussed within an interdisciplinary framework, though the theories applied and described are derived from the area of cognitive psychology. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Fundamentals of Medium Access Control Design for Millimeter Wave Networks

    Författare :Hossein Shokri; Carlo Fischione; Joerg Widmer; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : In current wireless communication systems, demands for extremely high data rates, along with spectrum scarcity at the microwave bands, make the millimeter wave (mmWave) band very appealing to provide these extremely high data rates even for a massive number of wireless devices. MmWave communications exhibit severe attenuation, vulnerability to obstacles (called blockage), and sparse-scattering environments. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex virus infections in the fetus and newborn infant, with regard to neurodevelopmental disabilities

    Författare :Mona-Lisa Engman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The congenital cytomegalovirus infection (CMV) is the most common congenital infection causing childhood morbidity. The majority (85%) of infected infants have no signs of infection in the newborn period, and when sequelae such as a hearing deficit or neurological impairment manifest themselves, the possibility of a CMV infection is easily overlooked. 5. 35. The Human Spiral Ganglion

    Författare :Sven Tylstedt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; human spiral ganglion; ultrastructural morphology; neural interaction; synaptophysin; connexin; membrane specializations; synapse; gap junction; tight junction; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Our knowledge of the fine structure of the Human Spiral Ganglion (HSG) is still inadequate and new treatment techniques for deafness using electric stimulation, call for further information and studies on the neuronal elements of the human cochlea. This thesis presents results of analyses of human cochlear tissue and specimens obtained during neurosurgical transpetrosal removal of life-threatening meningeomas. LÄS MER
