  1. 6. Human adipose tissue. Genes predominantly expressed in the visceral depot and in hypertrophic adipocytes

    Författare :Jenny Palming; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :obesity; type 2 diabetes; adipose tissue depots; complement system; plasma cell; Fc receptor; serum amyloid A; NAD P H:quinone oxidoreductase 1; DNA microarray;

    Sammanfattning : The obesity prevalence is increasing worldwide and obesity is closely linked to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Both visceral fat accumulation and enlarged adipocyte size are risk factors for obesity related metabolic disorders. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Gene expression in human adipose tissue. Studies of leptin and genes selected by expression profiling

    Författare :Britt Gabrielsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :obesity; subcutaneous; omental; DNA microarray; sulfonylurea receptor; fibroblast; growth factors; complement system; fibroblast;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity, and in particular the amount of visceral adipose tissue, is correlated to development of type 2diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The aim of this thesis was to study genes expressed in humanadipose tissue that could be involved in regional adipose tissue homeostasis and/or obesity-associateddisease. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Aspects on Immune Complex Handling and Complement Deficiency in Relation to Pathogenic Mechanisms in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

    Författare :Cecilia Klint; Molekylär endokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serologi; Immunologi; transplantation; Immunology; serology;

    Sammanfattning : The autoimmune disease Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is associated with hereditary deficieny of early components from the classical pathway of complement activation, but not with deficiency of complement component C3 or of the alternative pathway components. The classical pathway is involved in elimination of pathological immune complexes from the circulation by transport via complement receptor type 1 (CR1). LÄS MER

  4. 9. Cancer and autoimmunity: two sides of the same coin. Complement system proteins in the regulation of immune responses

    Författare :Karolina Smolag Klosowska; Malmö Proteinkemi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Factor H is an inhibitor of the complement system, essential for controlling the alternative pathway and also playing a crucial role in various cellular functions. In this thesis, we identified new intriguing functions of FH as a survival factor for primary human monocytes, promoting their differentiation into immunosuppressive macrophages. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Circulating immune complexes in atherosclerotic vascular disease

    Författare :Awder Mustafa; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :circulating immune complexes; autoantibodies; lipoproteins; cardiolipin; oxidized LDL; atherosclerosis; myocardial infarction; food proteins; complement factor C4.;

    Sammanfattning : We have investigated the association of the humoral immune factors circulating immune complexes (CICs) and autoantibodies against cardiolipin (aCL) and oxidatively modified LDL (oxLDL) to atherosclerotic vascular diseases. In a prospective nested case-control study, in which healthy 50-year-old men were followed for 20 years, the prevalence of elevated CICs and the concentration of CICs were higher in men who developed myocardial infarction.
